yes, some agents bluff the age of the maids so as to get them into spore. Yours is not the first case I've heard.

today my parents gave me a shock...i left my 3-day old maid with my parents as i need to go for a biz trip... my parents this morning ask her how old she is...she say she 24 to my mum...say 25 to my dad...my dad test her further ask her wat year she born...she say 1995 (which is 16 years old!) my mum say no wonder! she dun look 24/25..look less than 20 years old! OMG..is she that young? her passport / wp / agent all say she born in 1985...

To bluff 10years difference is hell for the employer. I think 16 years old not mature enough.

Yanyan, my maid told me that they are told to lie about their age inorder to work in Singapore as its near impossible for the relevant authorities to find out. When the maid reached their actual age then their passport will revert back to their "real" birth date. From the horse mouth.

My maid used to call my 6yr old boy \"Mess\" and he was so upset. His name is Max but we sometimes call him Maxi. My boy tried so hard to teach her for over a year and still it was \"Mess\" or \"Messy\"! :slapshead:

I make my maid repeat the correct word over and over again until she get it right. Lucky my maid did not insisted that was what its called in her language. It’s my first time getting a Burmese maid and I agree that their English is lousy! However, to make things work, I actually employ a tutor for her! I managed to get this Burmese Native working in Singapore to teach my maid English once weekly. My maid’s English improved tremendously and by 3 weeks with us, she is able to communicate with others in English.
However, lately, she saw this headline on Today’s, "Should maid get an off day every week?" and yes, she understands! She actually took the papers to show me! Claiming that she doesnt quite understand the contend fully and would like me to explain!! I was feeling so upset and wondering if I am doing the right thing to be nice to her!! -

Haiz. Does she still have outstanding loan with you? If no, then you have the upper hand. I have had a similar experience with my burmese maid in the sense that she has a cheerful disposition. Now that i read so many posts, it occurred to me that she has never really apologised for her mistakes - but guess whats important is that she makes attempts not to repeat them.My current maid is Burmese, after 2 indo maids. She's no perfect and doesn't do things very well, but I consider her a godsend.
1. she always welcome me home with a smile,
2. not one to worry about her money (she asked me to keep, each time I asked her to check, she'll tell me don't need),
3. able to accept when she has done something wrong (we don't scold her, bearing in mind that burmese tend to be prouder),
4. she loves my kids to bits,
5. she can eat pork (I'm no longer drinking chicken based soup only)
She came not knowing much language, but happily, she is starting to understand more of what we say (or maybe we got used to communicating with her in a variety of styles). She's not too clean but at least got no smell (my first indo maid had a smell about her). She's willing to exert energy in washing/cleaning (unlike my 2nd maid who behaves with a princessy air about her).
Ultimately I think it all depends on luck and what the family situation requires, and also if the maid needs the money or just come with the idea to have fun. Mine is quite light work (clean the house, that's all). There'll always be adjustment issues becos she wasn't brought up the same way as me, but I think we can work it out.
After about almost a year though find that she is getting to be a bit defiant but i need to be firm about my requirements.
She is a bit curt in her speech - & while it does not affect me - MIL tends to feel that the maid is undermining her authority!
Anyway - my policy is to change my helper every 2 years as they get too familiar & i find it hard to be firm - as i may have already allowed them some liberties! -

Yes, agree totally...Totally freak me out today..But what can i do? send her back? She's only 3 days here..and my parents like her alot...to the extend that my mum told me..she call her umpteen times to take dinner but she still continue to work...I told my mum have to be firm with her..she's only 3rd day..of coz if she act has to act hardworking...let her get used to not listen to our instructions then we will have hard life later.. and i told my mum to put aside dishes meant for her only and not let her pick and choose her food..my mum juz dun listen...i told my mum if in future she is spoilt or what...dun ever complain to me...haiz..now away from home..yet has to take in these nonsense...cant stand :stupid:
and now if she is only 16 yo...how i dare to stress her to work? it juz remind me of the ID maid incident where she push the child down...My gal is only 19mths... Argghhh! It's really freaking me out! :mad: But my mum thought i am juz overly worried...kp telling me to treat her like a child! Harlow..I pay govt levy and monthly salary to her for her to help me..not to adopt another child!!! :mad: :stupid: -
Oh dear! I totally understand how u feel. Does the maid look after ur DD? Is ur mom around all the time to look after ur DD and the maid only help to jaga?
