All About Kids' Eye-sight

DD is also on 1%, 1 drop every nite. The doctor says that they don't bring in 0.5% anymore.
I am following doctor's advice for now. Don't dare \"self-medicate\" for such things especially since dd's myopia is so high. I want to do whatever I can to control it.
DH brought dd into JB yesterday and got the clip ons. They had to be cut into shape but it was very nicely done, all for a low low RM20 (S$8). If I had to get them custom made in Spore, would cost S$80. That's one zero more.
DD likes the clip on very much. Reminded her that must still wear her cap even w the clip on which she is happy to do so cos she says her fav winx club faires also wear sunglasses and cap  -
Hi Kiasu-mom, what is this Ortho-L Lenses? Where can I buy them? My gal is 8 and she has 400 on both eyes.
-
Hi Peopot - OrthoK is a hard contact lens that my DD wears at night before she goes to bed and she takes it out in the morning before going to school. It supposedly 'reshaped' her cornea and in a period of 1 week she managed to get to perfect eye sight and will not need glasses. however she must be diligent and wears it regularly, else her original cornea shape will return. The lenses has to be custom made and ordered from the US. I bought it at thru mee mee optics at bukit timah plaza. It's quite costly though at $1800 per pair which includes all the follow up, consultations and they also re-ordered a pair when the initial pair did not work well. so far so good though initially she had a hard time trying to put on the lenses. she only agreed to do it because she is very into ballet and as she is not allowed glasses during dance and this treatment is one alternative which allow her to see better.
You can check out http://www.allaboutvision.com/contacts/orthok.htm for more info...
Hope this helps... -

If he squints, that means he can't see clearly and this strains the eyes further and will cause the degree to shoot up even faster. You can switch off the TV if he refuses to wear. According to the doctor, frequent rubbing of eyes also causes myopia to worsen. -

haiz. he rubs his eyes often. sometimes until the area near his eyes get abrasion.jedamum:

yes, i off the tv if he does not want to wear specs, but difficult to enforce if the elder bro wants to watch the programme too.

My dd also resisted specs for some time. No choice. Had to nag nag and nag. Also had the optician and eye doctor talk to her. Now her degree is so high she wears even when we donβt remind her. She says she cannot see wo her specs

Agree with sall that must persist in encouraging ds2 to wear his glasses, otherwise his degree will increase more rapidly. 2 things I may do :

1. off the TV (but poor ds1 will definitely be resentful towards his brother)
2. remove ds2 from the TV. Either he wears his glasses or he does not get to watch his fave progs at all
Guess, in this instance, must be strict about it. Otherwise ds2 eyes will worsen in the long run. -
When dd2 had to patch her eyes because of her squints when she was about 3/4 yo - she resisted as well. Fortunately around that time, one of her fave progs was Teen Titans and there was this character, Cyborg who had a one-eye patch. We said that she looked like Cyborg - so strong and brave - with her eye patch too. Made a big deal and sang praises that she's a good girl for taking care of her eyes.... In then end, she became more accepting to her eye patch.
Another thought just struck me, perhaps ds2 feels giddy or discomfort as he is not used to glasses yet? Just assure him that his eyes will hurt less if he has his glasses on. Another way, negotiate with him in terms of the duration of wearing glasses? Example, tell him that he has to wear his glasses if he watches TV and plays/work on the computer. But he can take them off when he is at the playground (something to that effect).
Also, show pics of kids who are smart who are in glasses and say that smart kids wear glasses.
Hope that helps :xedfingers: -
hi schweppes,
thanks!
ds2 rather forgo watching tv than wear specs.
the only time he agree to wear is when playing computer.
