All About Full-Time Maids
-
hi littlefly,
don’t fret on that. take it as bonding time with kids. I made a personal choice not to leave my maid in charge of my kids and in this I am happy (though tired). I rather that my kids go to me, than to prefer the maid.
my first maid was with us for 5 years. my first one see her 24x7, but he was never close to her - I would say this is becos she doesn’t take care of him so maybe he see her as like a furniture.
curious if employers of these part time maids will kena if found out. so far I only know that maids will be liable (aka kena sent back), but not sure what other penalties there will be. if don’t have, then it’s a very good incentive for pp here to hire maids to do part time work. Claim dunno…very easy right? -

agree with u.. if our kids are older.. of coz we do not mind maids having off days.. with 3 young kids.. n for u.. another on the way.. weekends r definitely a killer.. dun even say those who are SAHMs, worst for them i tink..
Agree with you both. I would prefer privacy of not having another 陌生人 at home if i can help it. Tell those in favor of maids having offs every week to jagga a crying baby and a whining infant when you are trying to prepare meals or do housework. :skeptical: -
Hquek, i have been wanting to comment coz some views (paper, media reports) make my blood boil but cannot find time. Now flooding the posts....
My maid is keenly following this development coz she super interested to go out Jalan every week after hearing from my neighbour's maid though she takes up this contract with no off day but compensation in lieu with EYES OPEN. Already no off-day but still can spent til broke each month and lament on low pay of Singapore compared to other countries. Big liar on ex-pay and no bf and flip her stories in and out. I 忍忍忍coz need her help around with meals and housework with young infants at home. -
hi littlefly,
Where benefits are concerned, everyone (maid or not) will be eyes bright bright. Unfortunately yours probably wants to be a butterfly and go out to flitter. pretty impressive that she can spend until broke each month. I really wonder how she can survive the off day with no money in her pocket - Sg is not the cheapest of places.
So far, I usually encourage my maids to remember why they come to SG in the first place (aka to earn money), and give them the dream that they will go back to their hometown with bulging pockets. -
One thing about maids, not sure if I ever posted before. they don’t seem quite cognizant about what it all means. I recently shared with my maid about exchange rates. She was shocked to know that if she had gone to MYS to work, her pay would be about half of what she gets in SG. Of course, her spending would be lesser becos things may be cheaper there - but then so far most of the things I bear the cost.
For those who nag about how little they are paid in Sg, I suggest you ask them how much they earn in their homeland. Not being condescending, just give them food for thoughts. -
My maid is more matured in her thinking. 2 days ago, my MIL asked me to intro any of her friend to help to do some part time cleaning. My maid just replied cannot as it is not legal for maids to find part time job outside. My MIL was quite unhappy with my maid’s reply but I supported her.

These maid v smart. Know when to say the right thing in front of employer so that they won't suspect the maid at all. -

I read that the law has changed, such that employer wont forfeit their security bond if the maid gets pregnant, just have to send them home.
However, the Government seems to forget that getting a new maid (hopefully a not too bad one) and re-training them is another torture.
