HappyFaye, thanks for the feedback abt Playchinese, appreciate it.

It seems not all NTUC sells 大姆指, as I made it a point to check each one I go to. Glad you found one which does. Agree that it is more the kids' level compared to daily chinese newspaper.

phankao - we have ipad but it is just a platform so depends on which Chinese apps we download. I tried asking around but so far only downloaded the Chinese dictionary. I also enabled the stylus/hand-writing input - the small bonus I see is that ds is keen to use the ipad to lookup the dictionary and hence \"forced\" to write the hanzi - how much benefit this equates to in the long run remains to be seen.

BUZZ outlet (usually near bus terminal/MRT) sells 大姆指. While stocks last (uncle told me sold out quite fast). 大姆指 a bit too difficult for my boy in P3. he likes the small姆指 for P1 and P2! but quite costly for such little contents.

Yup - I got a few issues at the beginning of the year and passed to DD1 (P3 too) to have a read 😉 ..End up - she passed back to me, \"Mummy, can read together with me? There are too many words I don't understand!\"

She prefers to read the 知识报 subscribes from school 😉

Tutor told me 大姆指 is more suitable for those taking HCL as content is more difficult. My son's 知识报 goes straight to the 'cold storage'. Teacher doesn't have time to get class to do the exercises inside. I don't even have time to open that folder for all the 知识报.
Daughter in P1 has to do the exercises in 好朋友 as homework and teacher will mark them.

Yup, my DD1's CL teacher makes them do the exercises in the 知识报 and teacher marked and returned to parent for signature and acknowledgement.

                  Hi Champion

Yes, same to dd CL teacher. She wants them to do all the exercise regarding P5 or P6 exercise since last year and the next day she will go through with the class.

 Wow ! parents must acknowledge !!!
My son has never done 好朋友 (P1/2) and 知识报 all these years. I wish I can save up the money every year. You know the 字宝宝 in booklist...those cards have never been touched at all.

HappyFaye, the handwriting/stylus interface - just activate the international keyboard on your ipad.It is independent of the dowloaded dictionary (I use KT Dict)

                      http://www.padgadget.com/2010/05/10/ipad-quick-tip-international-keyboards/

大姆指 - quite okay for my P5 NCL boy. I tried getting him to read daily chinese newspaper but it was an impossible task. Noted about BUZZ outlets (thanks). Anyone knows usually WHICH DAY OF THE WEEK will 大姆指 be out at the newstands ?

Champion - your dd's CL teacher really champion !

Yea - so now I am thinking should i buy the P1 set for my DD2 next year :? :? For the past 2 years, my DD1 put them nicely in a booklet folder and we donate to NTUC during the collection of old textbooks drive.

:imsorry: :imsorry: :offtopic: here in Preparing kids for P5 in 2011 thread!
