Last year, we were totally unprepared and unaware - school only informed us and gave us the consent form 2 days before the competition date. DS went in a daze and cannot remember how many qns he did, only said \"whoa mommy, very difficult, I left many blank :scared: \" In the end, he only managed a honorable mention award (1 below bronze), which was good enough for us considering we were sooooo unaware plus he was totally on his own, no tuition.Hi CWC,
My son did 19 qns last year, didn't know how many correct, but got bronze only.
Does yr son get any training at outside Maths Olympiad training Ctr?
After the contest, I decided to start him with Maths Hub......so it's like 10 months now.....this year, shall see if Maths Hub is helping him. What about your son? -
Hi CWC,
Maths hub is a good choice. My son has finished NMOS, SMOPS,SMO Junior1 training program at Maths hub. He is starting SMO Junior2 now. So you see, he learned a lot advance and got such result. He works very hard on it, he did 60 to 70 Maths Olympiad questions at least everyday. That’s why he feels sad now. May I know your son is studying at which branch of Maths hub. -
Hi Leexue,
wow…60-70 maths olympiad questions daily? where does he get soooo many qns & time to do it?
And he has already progressed to SMO Junior2…a very determined fella yeah. He must be really interested in Maths. DS just completed his NMOS, starting SMOPS this term…but curious, how does your son progress so fast? A special arrangement or accelerated program or ???
DS is at Bukit Batok branch. -

Three programes and past year's questions, I also bought some Maths Olympiad books from Popular. It only takes 1 hour per day to do the questions. He can do so fast because he has done so many times and remembered a lot of answers. Haha.Hi Leexue,

Thats a lot of work to do in a day.
I can understand the sorrow. Please tell your DS to enjoy the process and not worry about the result. When the paper is tough the marks drop significantly. -

Having put in so much effort, it's natural for your son to be disappointed....do hope he'll cheer up. :rahrah: I must tell my son....how committed others are and how much effort is being put in.....on off my son does 20 questions and very happy already, will come ask for computer time  :faint: -

Your DS so committed and motivated to do Maths Olympiad questions and so hardworking! Tell him whatever is the outcome, he had tried his best and should leave the rest to fate. If I do not remember wrongly, he did well for SMO Junior right?
My DS only did 3 past year NMOS 1st round paper before off he went for his NMOS competition last year. Same for this year - he did 3 past year SMOPS 1st round paper and went for the competition. -
When he did SMO Junior, he didn’t feel pressure. So he did it over his standard.

Results for NMOS preliminary round should be out this week I think…
Anyone knows what is the percentage of students that is invited to the special round compared to the whole cohort? If the child gets into special round, does that mean assured of a silver/gold?
Thanks. -
