Is a 2nd hand Yamaha U1J (made in Indonesia) selling for $3k reasonable ?

How old is this piano and at what grade is your child?

If the U1J is 3-4 years, IMO still alright for the price. I think a brand new is about 6K plus. You have to consider if you are using it for long term or to upgrade later. Indonesia make resale value etc if you are using for short term.

U1 has limitations if you child goes to higher grade, which a U3 would have a much better respond for fast playing, feel etc. Of course a U3 has a different price tage.

For the amount you are paying, a brand new China piano would be roughly in the same price range or just slightly more. Explore the Hailun, or certain German brands but China produced which produces great sound. You have to try it out yourself and do some forum research.

I am also in the midst of purchasing a piano for long term. I have a set budget and shortlisted the pianos of our choice, ultimately, DD will be the one to help decide as she has to be happy with the instrument.

Shaber, you’re talking about Wilh. Steinberg right? Sorry, need to double check as there is another Steinberg, initial is G Steinberg, and that’s a China brand. Back to W Steinberg, again, very much like many piano manufacturers, there is a top tier which is fully made in Germany, which is, of course, very well made. Solid work and solid, though heavier action. However they do outsource in China, these again have two types, one solely made in China using Chinese action and those made in China but using German action. My info dates back a few years, so not sure whether these have changed.

Has anyone bought used piano from Century Piano located at The Plaza? They give warranty also. My daughter just started learning 2months ago. Used U1 imported from Japan cost $4350 with 10 yrs warranty, new chair, free delivery, 2 free tuning. Is it reasonable?

usually not recommended to buy used digital piano… as the technology moves too fast… why not consider acquostic?

How old is the used U1 piano? At the price of $4350 maybe can consider get those brand new china made piano (European brand).

The shop can give 10 years warranty but whether would they stay in the market for long is questionable.

I believed if you get piano from them, the shop would help you dispose away the piano.

actually i am very confused… whether to get Yamaha or china made brand ?

the U1 is abt 20 yrs and direct import from Japan and the seller said that it is better to get Japan imported piano than the local piano cos our weather is more moist.

It is like you are getting an old man/women (Piano) home in which pray hard it does not have any major illness. So at $4350 it is a 20 year old piano, does the shop take in a price if say you have use for 5 years?


Guess I would be looking at HL125 China Made Piano from Piano Master.

Hi, seems like no one has heard about Karlchonderg from Chiu Piano. According to my coll, she bought it cos the Yamaha teacher at Thomson Plaza (which is just opp Chiu Piano) recommended it. The Yamaha teachers said her peers also recommended this brand.


Wonder if this is true. Any parents with kids taking lessons at Yamaha Thomson Plaza, could u verify? Thanks!
