linden2000, thanks for the inputs. I am just looking for general interesting chinese apps. I searched free apps and saw some 成语 ones but not particularly impressed. Do update us if you come across more - I will have a look at the comics audiobooks - thanks again for your sharing.

You are welcome. Do share also if you come across any. Always looking around for material to interest DS in chinese but it has been an uphill task.

They distribute to schools on every Monday and i assume they distribute to other outlet on Mondays too.

Got a copy of 大拇指 & 小拇指 from the Buzz outlet yesterday; :thankyou:

DD1 reads the 小拇指 enthusiastically but the大拇指 she says,\" Mummy, too difficult for my level. May I bring to school and pass it to my P5 senior during CCA training today?\"

Hi Ladies,

Do you have personal struggles getting your kid to write a compo ?
Just the thought of it makes very moody...maybe the reason is bcos I don't know how to mark it...so very hesistant (and sian) getting him to do so. Same goes for my daughter in P1.

Honestly, I need to preserve my stamina for the REAL marathon next year...but not possible to go easy on his SA2 this year. Sorry :frustrated: , need an avenue to vent some frustrations. :stupid:

Yes, I too feel it's tough to mark compos because it's like really pretty subjective. There is no answer key like Maths

And DS has this 'problem' of writing stories which are deemed to be not credible and will not happen in real life. Then he is marked as 'fail' for content . Have been advised by teacher to remind him to keep his stories' real.

I am most impressed with your success in motiviating your son to ace chinese in a short period of time despite not knowing chinese yourself. I have a high ability son, sec 1 this year, has never like the subject chinese. It is worse this year as his whole class does not like chinese and their young chinese teacher seems not able to control them. I would like to know your view on how to motivate him to learn chinese. I am angry with him because he is not putting effort in this subject. Thank you for your time and effort.

You're not alone lah. For EL compo., we are also not able to mark. For CL compo., can still arka arka.

Since i can't manage nor have skills to mark EL compo, I hands-off this area to retain my sanity.

Asked my son's CL tutor yesterday what I can do to improve his CL Paper 2...she told me he can 认字 on the whole. Have to memorize for the 口式
as it helps for his 作文. As for comprehension OE, choose some passages which are not too dry...that I totally agree . As for 短文填空, he has to practice more. Many kids from EL speaking families will have prob in this area.
