Haiz fenced up also no use. They will have their way. My exmaid can actually talk from the kitchen window to the maid downstairs. I think quite loudly untill I received a letter from another neighbour complaining that they chat nonstop for 3 to 4 hours during the day. My this exmaid also borrow money from other maids until the other maid come knocking on my door to get back the money and the point is she does not have any off day.

I had A shock when agent Search the maid that I send back Has a mobile phone! She is dishonest! and claim her \"brother\" came to my house and gave her.

Haiz... All maid like to lie. My ex-maid got the hp with the help of my neighbour's maid (who has off day). I only found out 1 year later when she use my mum to ask me whether she can have a hp.

Don't say \"all\" maids - that is certainly not the case. Sometimes it's not surprising that some of them act the way they do because it must seem like we all expect them to!

No point not allowing them to have phones bec they'll get one and hide it from you. I don't mind my maids having phones because they're adults and we should respect their rights. BUT when it starts interfering with their work, for eg using it when they're mopping the floor, chatting into the late hours and hence not having energy to their work in the day, I put my foot down.

If you constantly tell a child he is naughty, he will eventually give up trying to behave as he figures that you will still brand him as naughty anyway. If we don't show any trust to our maids and treat them like we assume they are going to get into trouble, then some of them will just live up to that expectations.

My view is that we need to start from a level of trust but make it very clear what will happen if they break that trust. That applies to using a hp when they are working, stealing, bringing strangers into the house. These are all breaches of trust and there will be consequences. Obviously using the hp may just result in a warning whereas stealing would be instant dismissal but I don't believe they need to earn things like a hp or day off.

@nms1 Maybe I look at things differently. Actually my girl does the opposite. If I tell her she is stupid, she will work extra hard to prove she is super clever.

As for me, I treat all my maid like a piece of white paper when they first step into my house. (means they are innocent unless proven guilty) I try to empatise them and be nice to them until their colours show by the days. Only then did I distrust them. Maybe I am unlucky but all (five) maids that I employed are liars. (Sorry to say that)

                  Hi,

                  Need some advice here...

My maid has been with me for coming to 4 years and she's good. She has frequent gastrics pain which we brought her to the doc. During her latest visit, the doc suggested for her to do a gastroscopy.

The procedure and treatment is not going to be cheap.. Anyone in a similar situation? How much did it cost u?

Did you ask the doctor rough estimation of cost? You should also check if the insurance you bought cover this first before deciding whether to go ahead or not.

It's probably going to cost $1k all in. Insurance doesn't cover it. How many of u would go ahead with it? We'll renew her contract in a few months time but she'll only continue working if her health is ok. Otherwise, she'll take a break back home and I gotta find a new maid

Can I just ask why her insurance doesn’t cover it. I will be honest & say that I never read the small print of ours, I just looked at the headline total coverage so you’ve got me worried.

Personally I would probably do it just in case it is something serious. You may not be able to fund long-term treatment if it is but at least you could send her back with a proper diagnosis. I would worry if she just went home that she wouldn’t do anything about it.

I think the new WP will be valid till Jul 2012, one month before her passport expiry.
