I have been to Japan with my boys in Nov when they were 4 years old (3 years old). If your kid is already toliet-trained, then prob no need to bring too many diapers. Only to bring sufficient for travel on the coach (I went Korea last Nov, realised not too much long travelling hours on the coach, except trip to the skiing resort, unlike Japan). Other than that you will need milk powder and sufficient clothing to keep your kid warm. If your son likes shabu shabu, then food should be ok in Korea. Gets to eat rice and hotpot with lot of vege and meat almost every meal.

          hi bee250,

Never been to korea with 5 y/o; but did netherlands on our own with a 5 and 2 y/o. I think there will be some tweaks based on whether you are doing F&E or group tour.

In fact, my 5 y/o was easier cos he only needed formula in the morning and at night - so I didn’t have to lug those stuff out for him. during the day, we just fed him whatever he will eat and also bought packet milk and tidbits along the way.

As for clothes, just do layering - bring enough t shirts and innerwear. 1 good (waterproof preferred) jacket to fend off the wind and cold (if it gets really cold then). Jeans for bottoms should be good enough. Shouldn’t be too tough really.

For distractions, you may want to consider those activity magazines or books on his pet topic, simple (and small) toys he likes to while away the time. They may not be able to sit still during long journeys.

          Have a good time!

            Hi hquek & mowmow,

Thank you very much for both of you on sharing your exprience with me. Now proablely have to check out the sweater my son had now is it sufficient for the trip. As well as getting 1 - 2 jeans for him.

              Hi mowmow,

You had mentioned about the hotpot that are being serve in Korea, does it come with non-spicy one for kid?

Does the resturant serve fish? My son prefer fish more than meat.

The hotpots are all not spicy. As for fish, heard from tour guide very expensive. So, during the trip, all meals provided were either pork or chicken. My children only got to eat fish on our free day when we visited a Japanese restaurant.

For me, never like to follow agency unless really necessary.

Korea can go on own (MRT very easy) if you stay in a convenient lodging.

If you want a local guide, i can recommend. This one price reasonable and speak reasonably mandarin.

Go Korea on ourself!!!! But I am afraid of language problem leh. Taking their MRT, how does we identify each individual station???

Would be very appriciate, if you could recommend a local guide. By the way, how is the charges like huh?

I was in Korea briefly in 2005, so I may remember wrongly but there are English signages around.

In Seoul, you may like to purchase a day-tour bus ticket - this bus travels around major attractions in Seoul and you can hop on/off for the whole day.

If you’re on your own, you can go to the tourism bureau’s stand (usually available at airport) to pickup maps, tour information and plan your itinerary.

My experience with Korea is that they don’t really speak English. But there should not be too much problems really.
