Well said, Chief.
P1 registration is really just the beginning. Getting into the right school is important, but what comes after getting into the school is MUCH more important than getting into the school.Twin_mum:
After reading all the post, felt like a really REALLY lousy parent. Didn't do PV, no alumnus, didnt move to near good sch.
My twins r registering for P1 this mth under P2c. I m staying in woodlands. Wat sch should I choose? All average only?
Feeling Very depressed.. Twins..any wrong move, and is multiplied by 2..
If only I hv join this forum earlier.. Any advice is most welcome..
If you choose an elite school, it will almost be like YOU as the PARENT are also going into the school. The stress level on YOU to ensure your child \"performs\" is much higher. That is why elite schools retain their titles - because parents push their children to be one up against the rest of the cohort. You will definitely be drawn into the race because it will show in your child's results.
Most parents prefer their children to be more independent in their studies. But it is difficult to do so these days, because of the advanced training and help that many of the other children get from external sources, or from their parents' incessant coaching. Very few children are mature enough to know how to learn by themselves.
As a parent, you should now be focusing more on planning your strategy on how you would want your child to grow as he/she enters P1. How to achieve a balanced approach so that your child can continue to enjoy precious moments of childhood while still attaining the standards expected by the schools? That is a much more important question than getting your child into the school! -
Castle House:
How good a school is to your kid is directly related to which teacher your kid gets. If your kid gets a good, nurturing teacher who covers the syllabus well, it doesn't matter if you're in a neighbourhood school or an elite school. Elite schools have not so good teachers too. I suppose the difference is at an elite school, parents are more likely to kick up a fuss if the teacher is underperforming or the parent simply sends the kid to tuition to make up for the inadequate teaching in school.Just to share..
Neighbour school not necessary is a bad school... those elite school not necessary is top school.. *no offence*
A matter of fact.. SVPS.. was not a good neighbour school when dh was studied there.. in fact.. according to him... it was a 'Ah Beng' school.. :rotflmao:
It was only recent years, they have top scholars there.. that why it became popular and in other's opinion a 'good' school..
Who knows, maybe one of the days, your kids will be a scholar thus bring up the level of the school, and make it a popular and 'elite' school .. well.. combination effort from all isn't it..

that PRC girl was 14 when she took the PSLE that yr .... it was like a Sec2 student taking PSLE again...
I read somewhere that the next highest scorers in Qifa after her were about 260+ only.mummy of 3:
Just like Qifa PS. Top Scholars in 2009 then start balloting in P2C in 2010... -
Castle House:
What is this 14yo PRC girl?
Qiu Biqing, top PSLE scorer of 2009. -

Hmmmm. I think yes and no. After reading so many threads, I get the impression that students are being constantly tested to find out where they stand in the whole cohort.
Hi..Castle House:

I do not know SV have top scholars until you mentioned. I am not actually aiming for top school, but a not so bad school that can meet up to PSLE standard. Correct me if I am wrong, my personal opinion that the kids scored very well in the school test, but unable to meet the PSLE standard, is no meaning to me.
Honestly, I dun need my boy to be a scholar, just want him to enjoy and work hard in school.. and don’t lag behind.
Hm.. I think all school.. or all Teachers are preparing the students for their first 'BIG' paper test in their life..
regardless whether is a neighbour school or not..
My personal feel is as long all parties.. Teachers/students/parents are ready.. should be able to pass the PSLE... if a student can pass through the school papers, in my own opinion, should have no problem passing through the PSLE.
Once they have grouped the kids according to capabilities, they will prepare the kids base on the percieved capabilities. Meaning if the kid has the potential to do very well, then will expose the kid to questions that will enable him/her to go over certain band. If the kid is only average, then will prepare the kid to handle questions to a certain level and not expose the child to the really hard questions. It's kinda sad because late bloomers will suffer and it result in unnecessary stress for students, parents and even teachers.
:offtopic:
That's sad but true. -

She's PRC so entered the Singapore system a couple of years below so she could brush up on her English. That's the case with a lot of PRCs. It's not surprising to find that PRCs in Sec 1 are 14/15 years old.
Oh then it's not very fair right?KSP:

Hilarious coz the guys are obviously maturing while my class boys aren't so we used to stare at their hairy legs !!
