Pat's Schoolhouse

Oh dear, it really sounds like she's not very responsive to feedback. I do agree that paying such a big premium, parents would have higher expectations. Maybe you shd feedback to Patricia Koh anoynomously and see if any action is taken. In anycase, Melina is no longer there. Hopefully the chinese Principal wld be more responsiveGeneraly I heard very good things abt Pats but I really don't feel good abt the branch at Arena after my half day there with my kid. I was told also that the ratio shld be about 1 teacher to 3-4 kids but it was not the case when I was there. There was not relief teacher to replace the permanent teacher who went on course. As for the tricycle, I don't mean to be defensive, I just very safety conscious. At least about 2-3 big wheeler tricycles and with 10 over kids of merely 2 yr old running around and some trying to ride on the tricycles, I can't imagine and have no doubt of the big wheels running over the small feets. At least I got bumped onto few times when the kids were trying to ride on the tricycles. What would be most reasonable is to fence over the area only for those big tricycles for big kids to play. This is safety and don't difficult to execute. Again, how could this 2 yr old girl went to the toilet herself and lucky I was there or unlucky for the school that I spotted this...sigh !! The toilet bowls were so dirty and there was only 1 auntie there who just walked in/out of the kitchen. The school that my kid is in for once a week, at least they have few cleaners and those just dedicated to food preparation and the fees are about the same. The reason I chose Pats at arena initially was becos of the distance. Anyway, I seriously considering withdrawing after the bad experiences. Worst of all, when I feed back to the principal in a nice way, she doesnt seem to care much or at least dont even have any solutions or shows much concerns...How could I be not worried when these are so basics and yet not met and esp with the premium I paid for.
Im sure this is branch specific and I also heard good things from my colleague for other branches, and that is the reason I signed up for Pats but now ?????

Hi All,
I’m considering to send my kids to Pat’s schoolhouse in either Claymore or Whitley. Can those who send their kids to the Claymore branch share with me their experience ? How is the Principal, Lauren Tan and how are the teachers there ?
With regards to Whitley, for those who has gone to see the new premises, any comments ?
There seems that some parents have some issues with Melinda (who is going to be the new Principal of Whitley). Can you please PM me your experiences ? What is she like ?
Tks & regards -

My kids have been with Pat's Claymore since 2004!! Eldest son graduated last year. This year, younger son in K2 and daughter in Nursery. Kids very happy there. Principal and teachers are friendly, fun loving, helpful!! Have you had a chance to visit the school? -

I visited the new premise, there's nothing much to see now cos its totally empty. IT will only be up in mid Sep. I'm also contemplating switching branch now, Elsie from Buckley seemed more caring and warm. -
Another one to consider is 11 Halifax. Good teachers, warm and passionate principal (Ada) and good, well-rounded curriculum. Only thing is, I’m still not sure how well they prepare kids for P1 (I always wonder about the maths and Chinese part). Any parents who have been through Pat’s with kids now in primary school could share?
It seems that most of my DD’s classmates go for Chinese enrichment (mine included). -

Hi Precious3,
Tks for sharing about Pat's Claymore. Since your eldest son has graduated last year, he should be in Pri 1 now. Is he adapting well to Pri 1 ? Does Pat's Claymore prepare him well for Pri 1 in terms of all the subjects (Maths, English & Chinese).
Are your kids on the school bus ? If yes, how is the school bus operator ?
Yes, I've gone to see Claymore but I'm also considering Whitley as it's nearer to my house.
Tks & regards, -

I've not met Elsie personally but have spoken to her over the phone. The problem is that alot of the other Pat's school house branches such as Serangoon, Halifax and Buckley are full and have waiting list. Thus they are trying to encourage parents to go to Whitley branch. Is Buckley able to confirm a vacancy for you ?
Cheers, -
Hi,
Has anyone enrolled their child to the branch at Siglap or katong? Kindly feedback. Appreciate yr help. -
Jerico:
Buckley has places for afternoon session. I'm waitlisted for full day. I'm still considering cos Principal does play a big part. :?

DS is doing well and enjoying P1... I think Pat's did prepare them quite well for P1. Re Chinese... If I remember correctly, they are introduced to Han Yu Pin Yin sometime during their K2 year as an introduction to what they'll learn in P1. They have Ting Xie too. My kids do not come from a chinese speaking home but thankfully, they are not averse to the language and infact they enjoy it quite a bit! I think this can be attributed to the school and the way they teach the language.
As for English/Math, aside for the regular spelling, they are taught Time and Money sometime during K2. Last year, sometime in November, the school engaged someone to come in and simulate \"Going to Primary One\" with the K2's.... They were introduced to the various aspects of P1, eg. classroom setting, going to recess etc.
I can't say if Pat's prepared my son very well for P1 cos I'm sure there are other schools out there that do more than Pats  On the other hand, I know that my son didn't have any real problems when he started P1 so I guess Pat's much have done something!! On the whole, I think education at Pat's is well-rounded and holistic, academics weaved in very well with play!!
I'm my kids school bus so sorry... can't help you with the cost of school bus fares
Hope all this is useful....
cheers
