thanks all for the replies!!
Anna: thanks for your tots… hope to have a maid with good attitude and knowing whats priority… i know i’ll never know until i hire… sigh…
bzmum22: ya… i do recognise the fact that restricting interactions with the many many filis around our estate is impossible… thats why over the interview, i mentioned that she must know what is priority… and what she is here for… to work and support her family back in fili… hopefully, she understand what i mean… but yeah… if i take her, will definitely need to remind her and keep her in check with my expectations on these items…
LKVM: true… but am really wondering abt their general behaviours etc… meeting 1 with the right attitude is really impt… so hope the next one i pick will work out…
hquek: true… i think half of me wants to hire, the other half i din wanna succuumb to the agent’s pressure as well that someone else also interviewed her… really din wanna be pressured into deciding… but yet the feeling after the interview was good… shall give myself until tmr i guess… if by tmr she is hired… i would say just my luck! :S -
I think if she has family here who have days off she is likely to become unhappy about not being allowed out after a while.
My suggestion would be to take her if you like her and have a good feeling ( I think that means more than what the bio says) but maybe offer her one day off a month to give her the chance for some interaction.
It’s hard to keep them from talking to other maids but if she doesn’t have any reason to go out then it shouldn’t be too difficult. A quick hello & 2 minute chat is OK. My maid will say hello to the maids either side of us but is sensible enough to keep it at that. One of them asked to borrow her hp the other day as she is not allowed one but she sensibly refused. -

Off day issue...just stick to contract. If she agreed with no off days in the 1st place, then just remind her abt the agreement in the contract. If maid is sensible n mature, she will back off (but that doesn't mean she is going to be happy.) If maid sees the off day to be so important n she is so unhappy that she cannot get the off day, then there is a likelihood that she will break the contract. So, just let the maid go and change to another one who is willing to stick to the terms in the contract.I think if she has family here who have days off she is likely to become unhappy about not being allowed out after a while.

Impt thing is to think properly whether you can afford to give your maid off days before you hire and get the agreement into the contract. Dun hire liao, then half way change gear...no off days become hv off days or vice versa and worse is sometimes can give off days but sometimes cannot, must negotiate...like that, very difficult to manage the maid and you are definitely on the path of having maid problems on off day issues. -
May i chk how much is the market rate for fresh indo maids now?

thanks for your tots... the contract is definitely going to be w/o off days... this agency that i enquired with does this for all their maids.. but again, u will never know after some time.. tats why i already posed the qn to her during interview.. more so to set expectation... but again, expectation changes....

i guess, will go with gut feel... and give benefits when she is good... for me, that is reasonable.. i dont like indulging them right frm the very start.. cos' i do need the help.. else, i also wont be fretting so much abt getting them... :frustrated: -

Duno whether to trust or not to trust… when my f maid came last May…told her no hp n no off day…she happily agreed…but after she came …she told me she’s has aunties n cousins in sin… less than 5 mths says want to meet up wif her cousin so tot of destress her let her go for three hours…after tat ask for 2 hrs to have lunch with her f friends nearby… out of concern I let her have hp in the 3 mth so she could contact her 2 yr old girl and two other kids at fili… end up she chit chat while we are not at home …in april ask for off day due to my busy work schedule I rejected and in june asked again saying her aunty birthday…just need half a day…I was too kind hearted let her off from 1pm and told her to return b4 7pm she told me she will return at b4 6 but ended she reached home 7.45pm i totally lost trust in her…she started her chit chat session the very next day and even used her hp and went online to apply for a facebook by chance my eldest girl chance upon her hp and asked her she ignored my girl. she even took a photo of her in my mil room and load into the FB…I was so mad now thinking of sending her away…guess she sense it n have not been using her hp and was so hardworking even clean up layer of dust which she has not been doing so over last year… was thinking should i give her a chance… will she give me a chance to trust her???

For Philippine passport, need at least 6 weeks to process!
