BTW, may I know if :
1) it's similar to primary school where the number of vacancies available is made know? How can I find out the intake per year (Sec 1 in 2012)?
2) what is the standard class size now, 30... 40...?
3) is CCA compulsory?
Pardon me if my qns do sound dumb, am new and still very confused with the current secondary school system, IP etc... ??!? :scratchhead:
Thank you very much... : ) -

At the Open House, you'll be able to attend talks by the Principal or senior staff as well as tour the school, attend performances, see what CCAs the school has to offer etc. Basically check out the school to see if it's that the school you want your kid to attend. -

Hi moomoo138,
1) You can enquire during the open house about the no of vacancies available for 2012. For this year's sec 1, there are 12 classes with about 30 boys in each class. There are 6 talent classes, including one Josephian talent program class (for boys with psle agg of 250 and above). Do note that 40% of them come from affiliated schools.
2) 30
3) Yes, it is. -
jtoh - Tks!!! Is your DS currently in SJI? : )
junrahmat - Tks for the info!!! Which yr is your DS currently in? Sounds like he truly enjoying himself there… Appreciate it if you could share more… e.g., how’s the school hrs like, workload (lota of h/w??) & in your opinion, any comments regarding the teachers, etc… Sorry… am really kancheong… juz like you (ahem, not the kancheong part but) hope to make the best decision for our DS…
Our DS has been slacking recently, hopefully by attending the open hse this Sat can help us make up our mind & also to boost him up abit…
Tks again!! -
Hi moomoo, no I don't have any sons in SJI.

-
Hey,
my DS is in SJI, sec 2 this year and I I believe he is doing well. In rugby and enjoying himself despite the three times a week CCA. Workload is managable and not overly stressful, and he is coping well with his exams which will be in september.
Not to worry, although the school places an emphasis on a catholic education but nothing is forced. I’m non catholic so i advise my Ds not to participate in those activities… but i give him the choice.
I hear that the camps are not just fun but something meaningful cna be taken out of it. My friends also praise SJI for its record of producing fine young gentlemen who are both intelligent and upright, most of them find a good stable job and settle down easily.
Hope you make a well informed choice this year end. SJI’s open house is this Saturday. -
I have heard a lot about SJI, most students love it there, although they admit that the discipline there is a little more slack in comparison to other schools, which can work both ways. So if you’re after results and very stringent discipline, SJI is not the school for you. In such cases other schools like Catholic High and ACS are more suitable for you(within the same results range of course). What SJI seems to produce though are happy students, who generally look forward to school and are much nicer people overall compared to other schools.
So overall, its a choice based on what you want for your son. Do you want results out of him? Try schools like CHS and Anderson. Do you want a refined gentlemen who is nice to be around? Choose SJI.
