All About Preparing For Primary One

My son stopped his afternoon naps in k1 then...simply refused to sleep. Cranky around dinner time. But at k2, it was a good thing bcos p1 was afternoon session. At p3, he started his afternoon naps again as he was sleepy waking up early for morn school. Btw, he confessed recently that he knocked out after recess when he was in p1/2 :faint:i hv a question here...
DS is having this habit of noon naps since N1... well, to the old folks at home... kids must sleep in the afternoon, else they wont grow...
and now that DS is gg P1 next yr & i'm cfm P1 will be a pm session.... hw not to let him fall asleep during lessons... m afraid he may attend lessons with sleepy looks & eyes....
but in sch hw??? hv already talked to him abt not having noon naps next yr onwards... he has to prepare himself mentally... but comes 2012, i wont be sure abt that... :gloomy:
It's tough indeed to wean off naps. Maybe let him go to bed at 9. Hopefully he will have sufficient sleep if he can wake at 7am. -
RRMummy:
:thankyou: RRMummy... but he only attends half day am session... i hv been telling mil to let him be if he doesnt want to sleep... at most he sleeps earlier in the night.... but u know old folks lah... start telling me her \" words of wisdom \"... :faint:
you can start weaning him off the afternoon naps about a month or 2 before the School starts.. that will help him to adjust better. BTW, that's what Childcare Centers do too...poppy15:

even usually when we go for full days outings... DS will tend to hv this sleepy look between 3pm - 5pm... though he may nt sleep but wont hv the mood or rather too \"sleepy\" to do anything... unless its something he really enjoyed

Old people believe kids must sleep to 'grow meat' but they don't understand the struggle to stay awake in the afternoon if too used to naps. Lucky my son survived the 2 years of afternoon school w/out much prob...but at p5 now, he must have the nap or he can't get homework done.

It is grandma and grandpa that needs to be weaned off getting him to sleep..

now i'm stuck...
gist of the story: my ils are running a family business... if DS gg P1 next yr... most prob he will be up & abt by 8-830am to go together with DH to the shop & also DD to K1.
then donch think he will sleep in between from 9am to 11am, js before he gets ready for sch... or most prob spending that time to do homework or learn spelling (if any)
comes night, he will wanna watch 9pm shows & such... omg!!!
his bedtime as of last yr was 10pm till 8am... but sometimes he wld wake up very early at 7am, js to follow my sil to the shop, say if he stays overnight at their place instead... cos my sil needs to be at the mrt station by 730am to reach the office by 830am... she doesnt help out at the shop on weekdays.
how to twitch his sleepin routine?
sleep from 9am to 11am (if no homework) before sch & continue sleeping from 10pm - 8am as usual?
and complete his daily homework in between 8pm - 10pm shows during adverts? can concentrate or nt.. :scratchhead:
sorry for such a long fuss... -

My DDs are awake by 730 -745am and sleeps at 930 - 10pm..so I suppose your usual 10pm - 8am should be okay. If he can still nap between 9 - 11am then extra bonus for him.now i'm stuck...

But hor.. homework between advert from 8 - 10pm shows.. err I think is too distracting leh..JMHO -
hehe… i also think so… if at home, i will usually switch off the TV but if at my ils’ place, cannot switch off the TV…
so its behind closed doors inside the room… haha… -

My DD1 is a TV-addict. So since mid last year, I have imposed a rule - no TV from Mon -Thu. Homework time is from 8-9pm without TV distraction. That is not to say that she will not dilly-dally, and come up with some excuses if she is tired or not in the right 'mood'. But that I found is still better than having her heart fleeting right out of any door or her ears straining to listen to the movie instead of me. Otherwise, I will just end up her giving me sloppish work so that she can dart off to watch whatever is on...hehe... i also think so.... if at home, i will usually switch off the TV but if at my ils' place, cannot switch off the TV...

haiz..my little monkey.. :slapshead:
