Tissue in trolley is really quite disgusting. I was quite upset last Sat coz every trolley seemed to have something yucky left inside!

      Oh yes. That's revolting too.

How annoying. I blame the parents for bad behaviour. If my kid did that, I would sweep the kid up, load her into the car and drive straight home for some punishment. If you can't behave in public, don't go out in public.

        Well said :rahrah:

          Hi tutormom,

You have raised a very valid point above.

But I do believe that some exceptions have to be made sometimes in the case of toddlers, who tend to be volatile when it comes to matters of the stomach. Putting aside the fact that I believe most parents do bring their kids out after feeding them .... what if they had to run errands before going grocery shopping and that took up a bit more time than anticipated? Yes, I agree that one option is to go up to the cashier and pay for the item. But what if there is a long queue at the cashier? What if one is under time constraint? Time is not being spent productively when one has to interrupt the grocery shopping and then queue up twice some more. I feel that it would tantamount to stealing if one leaves the premises w/o paying and that would be almost impossible because of alarms and cctvs.

Anyway, I believe what is really important here is that the child needs to be explained to and that he/she has to understand that this is an exception made just one time and not the norm.

          JMHO, thats all 😄
For toddlers, I'm sure most mothers would have prepared certain snacks and drinks for them in case of emergency. Toddlers are very fussy eaters and mothers would not risk getting anything off the shelves just like that. It's either the food doesn't agree with the toddler or the toddler doesn't agree to the food. Anyway, if the children are really that hungry, they need a full meal and not something to fill their stomach temporary. Otherwise, there's no harm for the children to wait till payment is made to have their snack. Honestly, it doesn't take more than an hour to do grocery shopping, does it?
          JMHO 💋

sometimes if i can see that the kid is a bit different from other kids, i will not get upset even if the parents are or seem not to be doing anything, to stop his behaviour. i will just smile at the caretaker instead of giving black face.

but one who, in public places, wails or throw herself onto the floor, hit the maid or grandma is definitely one who needs spanking.

                  :rotflmao: Sounds like me.

Scenario 1: Go pay for it first, stick the receipt on the pack before opening it. Teaches child about respect and not taking self-service for granted.

Scenario 2: For trying, ok. Play a while, ok, but not the whole time while I shop carefreely. 😉

#1 - when they were younger,I always made sure I bring snacks and drinks when I bring my sons out. They know that anything they ‘take’ from the shelves, are not theirs until it is paid for. If they really really can’t tahan, I will pay for what I have first, exit the supermkt and finish the item before heading back into the store. If u eat in the store, it gives other children the impression that it’s ok to eat without paying, so I rather not give any oppty for misunderstandings.

#2- I am guilty of this… I reward my kids with a visit to the toy store if they will behave. but I do not allow them to play with the toys, or run ard etc. They can test (bounce maybe 1-2mins) and put it back. And I always teach them to take only those samples, or the first in front and not touch the rest/ or the wrapped ones. They know the rules, n if they cannot keep to my rules, they don get to go at all. So far, they enjoy just being able to look at the new toys… I also take note of what they like, and when they earn their rewards, or when other frens ask what to buy for their birthdays, I will tell them.

I get very frustrated when I need to buy toys and all the toys on the shelves are grubby and torn, I also use that point to teach my kids, so they understand why they should not play those toys that we don’t buy.

I agree, sometimes the child is different or more sensitive, I will try to be more understanding. But those that are deliberately rude, or 'acting' up, I will tell my kids that this is unacceptable behaviour, and walk away.

What irks me even more about children behaving badly is the nonchalance or non-action of the parents. I blame the parents for a kid’s behaviour.

If kids weren’t told by their parents that they’re behaving badly, they’ll begin to think that it’s acceptable behaviour. They would be oblivious to all the tsk tsk and angry stares from diners, for eg.

Recently I was at a restaurant and this girl, who was aged about 11, proceeded to tap her bowl with her chopsticks. On and on and on. All through the meal. The father did nothing to stop her. I don’t think he thought it was bad behaviour. Mind you, she’s ELEVEN, not a toddler.
