if computer draw lot based on distance algorithm, then will be accurate. The algorithm built in software can compute distance from school to the registering applicant's house address precisely.

so if got 2 applicants both stay < 1 km, but one stay at 0.5 km vs another staying 0.9 km, then the first applicant will enter the hot, popular school first.
no matter whether it is 50m or 900m, all will be classified under 1km...
all applicants will be classified under 1km, 1 - 2km and more than 2km

who draw lots ? admin staff there in charge draw lots, or computer draw lots randomly, based on a distance algorithm built in ?

Balloting is still a manual process. Once there is balloting, everyone within that category is treated equally, regardless whether you stay 0.01 km or 0.99 km from the school.

          phtthp:
for P2B, how do they share the pie amongst parent volunteers, grassroot RC leaders ?

          example:
Nanyang remaining 55 vacancies left. So P2B given 28 vacancies, whereas P2C given 27 vacancies. But within P2B 28 seats itself, how many given to PV & grassroot RC ?

if say, share equally means 14 reserved for PV and another 14 for RC leaders, then what if there are > 14 PVs, or > 14 RC leaders ? Then ballot for PVs, plus ballot for RCs, is it ?

is that how it works ?
No allocation division via PV, RC etc. It's all ONE category.

No lah. Not so high tech. They just put all the names into a goldfish bowl and the names are drawn out by hand one at a time. The school will draw out the first name, read it, that parent goes up, draws the next name, that next name goes up, draws the next name......

So everybody waits with bated breath for their name to be called.

              Scary:
Believe all Bukit Timah schools, except Bukit Timah Prim will need balloting for <1km.

Yes you are right. Each and every school on the bukit timah list is expected to ballot for <1km..I hear the numbers could be high on the number of applicants šŸ˜ž

Introducing IT will only invite criticism. There will be claims of manipulation to computer programs, etc. So, it's better to make it manual to make the process transparent.

Of course. That's why schools make it as transparent as possible. They get parents to draw the names out, not school admin.

Previously, the names drawn out were those who were unsuccessful. That was so traumatic for the parents they quickly changed the system. Too much crying as each name was called.

Can I check if balloting is confirmed, will it be conducted on the day the results posted or the day after registration is closed?

Planning the scenarios should we not be successful in our application.
If let's say i fail to get a place in MGS in phase 2b (we live within 1km), which other Bukit Timah school can I try for in phase 2c ? Can I apply to MGS again in phase 2c ? Or in the worse case, put my girl in Bukit Timah Primary and then waitlist in all the other schools in the area, is this possible ?

If you're not successful for MGS in Phase 2B, you can try again for MGS in Phase 2C. You live within 1km, which means your chances are better than others living out of 1km.

Worst case scenario - yes, you can waitlist all schools in the area.

                      :thankyou:
We decided on MGS because in the past it was a \"sure-thing\" for P2B, that all changed last year, and my wife has been on my back for my back-up plans, but been too busy with work till now *panic* :scared:

Usually on the day of the results.
