Sorry to say your concern should be those from SHHK. Watch out for that. Good luck.

Not just...also from RCs but its not easy to know how many in general.

Just to check, i am staying within 1km to MBS however if i join as grassroot member will my child be able to enrolled in phase 2B?

For the buddhist studies in MBS, can i opt out not to take it for my child? Please advise. Thanks.

Historically, there is no ballot for MBS under phase 2B. The number always match beautifully. Frankly I am not sure how they did it.

But under 2B for MBS, they only have members from SBF and grassroot leaders. MBS does not accept PV as the school strongly believe that demand is greater than supply so they don't want to disappoint parents and hence don't accept PVs. This definitely reduce one more group of competition.

For buddhist studies, you might want to check with the school. For P1 and P2, it is during class time. So I am unsure what is the arrangement if you opt out of it. But from P3 onwards, it is after school and it's not compulsory. Just need to inform form teacher about it. Note that alot of teachers teaching in MBS are non-buddhist. I know quite a number are christians/ catholic too. There are also malay teachers.

FYI, the buddhist study book is in CL and it mainly tells about the story of buddha (eg. he was a prince in India,etc...) and mainly on moral values. Nothing really staunch about it. To me, it's all teaching about one to be good. These are basic principle regardless of religion.

But if you feel strongly about it, then it's better to check out. But if you don't, there is no harm for the child to sit through the class like story telling and from P3 onwards, just don't attend. During my era, I had alot of friends who are catholics but their parents choose to put them in MBS.

For me, I attended a convent seconday school after MBS and I did bible knowledge and went to church. I am currently a free thinker and I see going to MBS and then a convent school as a good exposure to different religions and that made me feel that I am open to the thoughts of different religion and can understand the concerns better. Singapore is after all a regardless of race, language or religion country.

Recently I was talking to my K2 classmate's parents about Mee Toh (another buddhist school in punggol area) as it's near their house . They are staunch catholic and cannot stand the thought of seeing the buddha in the middle of the school hall. So Mee Toh in this case cannot work for them. So if you are like that, you have to think twice.

Last but not least, MBS will not ask students to convert to buddhism. I don't see my kids becoming very staunch after going to the school. They are still clueless about those buddhist practises but seeing bathing of buddha during vesak day as something fun that's all. I suppose that's the kind of environment. On the other hand, unlike a catholic school, not compulsory for students to sit through those quarterly mass.... so i suppose the religious practises is not as intensive as a catholic school.

is it because Guang Ming Shan donate the Buddha there, or some other temple donate ?

It is just like you see cross or other altars in catholic schools?
