What irks me even more about children behaving badly is the nonchalance or non-action of the parents. I blame the parents for a kid’s behaviour.

If kids weren’t told by their parents that they’re behaving badly, they’ll begin to think that it’s acceptable behaviour. They would be oblivious to all the tsk tsk and angry stares from diners, for eg.

Recently I was at a restaurant and this girl, who was aged about 11, proceeded to tap her bowl with her chopsticks. On and on and on. All through the meal. The father did nothing to stop her. I don’t think he thought it was bad behaviour. Mind you, she’s ELEVEN, not a toddler.

I agree, sometimes the child is different or more sensitive, I will try to be more understanding. But those that are deliberately rude, or 'acting' up, I will tell my kids that this is unacceptable behaviour, and walk away.

i think sometimes ago, a teacher said in papers that everytime she sees such happenings and her kids are with her, she will use it as an example to educate her kids. she doesnt care if the parents of the misbehaved kids hear her and her not so nice comments.

Saw a little girl about 6 years of age on the bus on my way home just now. The bus was very crowded and when there was an empty seat, I offered it to her. She rejected though her mum egged her on. Her reply was she preferred to stand and let others have the seat. A little boy of about 3 was standing on a seat in front of her. When the granny alighted with the boy, the little girl's mum asked her if she wanted the boy's seat. Her reply was \"No, he stood on it and it's dirty.\" :nunchuk: Somebody kept pressing the bell and this little girl remarked, \"can't they just press the bell once? It's so noisy and irritating.\"

To me, this little girl surpasses many who are much older than her. :rahrah:

I also find it very irritating that caregivers let the children stand on the seat with their shoes on. Some adults also like to put up their legs on the opposite seats. Sometimes, wet umbrellas.

              Selfish and inconsiderate. :scared:

Scenario 1, totally unacceptable to me. Since my kids are infants till now in pri school, they have very clear meal schedule. And to me, if they choose not to eat bcos they dun want to. I always pre warn them if they don eat now, they will go hungry. There is no substitution later and that applies to my DD3 (since 2 years) to DD1 who is 7 now. So for my kids, they eat all vege (including bittergourd or raw salad) and as parents we set good examples by eating the same food.

In school, they are even taught what are healthy choices (look for red triangle) and what are junk. They know and they tell me when we do grocery shopping.
To me, all these can be taught. What abt those children with serious food allergies? These kids are very responsible and they know they can’t just eat anything off the shelf, so why we can’t do that for our kids?

Scenario 2, I do let my kids try out toys that can be tried. Those with "press me" or "try me". But it totally irks me for those who tear open books or toys or treat the whole store like a playground. I always tell my kids, "would you want to buy a toy that has been played till rotten like this?"
At the children’s section of Ikea Tampines, i always wonder where are the parents. The kids will be taking off all the toys on the shelf or bins and throw, sit, or bash them around. To me, it is ridiculous and i blame the parents.
