DSA 2011

Not automatic exemption. They have to pay $50 to sit for the first round. If they make it thru, then it will be refunded and camp fee waived. If not, no refund for the $50 fee.RSS:
Nus high confirmed with me that ds don't need to pay for the selection camp and they will even refund us the 50 dollars dsa application because he is in estein club. So we save 140 dollars. Ds is happy and like the school even more. They certainly know how to generate goodwill!
So, einstein club member need not even pay any fee for DSA! Actually NUS High already know this club members and should actively invite the P6 members to apply for DSA there. These top schools are all having activities to entice top pri school kids to join them - active marketing and recruitment! Can't help but feel that schools are acting more and more like corporations nowadays. -

No news yet from nygh, my dd is in gep and do hcl. Getting a bit anxious ......Good luck to all the girls applying for DSA!
Girls who applied to NYGH through GEP and do HCL should be hearing from NYGH soon if not already, based on previous years' experience. Any news?
All those going for interviews, jiayou!! -

I understand it is a phone call from the school.
How he was inform he is offered? Through email, letter or infrom by the school?Kloggy:
Just heard that my DD's classmate (a boy) got a CO from HCI. The boy from GEP and took HCL. Apparently he also did quite well for SMOPS and was invited to attend some camp in the first week of June school holidays.
Just to share ......
I understand school normally don't give CO at this early stage. -

Hi, wonder if someone could help me here?
I understand some girls who sat for GAT test in June at RGS have been called up for 2nd round test/interview. My child sat for hers on 9 Jul, when shld I expect to hear from the school ? Or does no news = bad news?
Also my child also sat for NYGH GAT and she told me it is identical to the one at RGS. In such a situation, how do the schools decide which test to use as a shortlisting criteria ? do they compare notes or just the the results of the test taken at their own respective school ?
thank you !
OrangeJuice!
My Gal did Similar tests.
RGS specifically say that they will not accept other GAT test results. Only RGS ones.
Thank you KiasuGrandmaster III for your reply to my query !
But wouldnt that be unfair ? In my girl’s case, since she sat for RGS first and then NYGH, she’d perform better for the latter. This wldnt be fair for other girls who hasnt taken the test before rite ? -
Kloggy,
Dun worry. Your dd stands a very good chance with NYGHS. As far as I know, they told my dd that results will be out end of this month. Anyway, according to previous years, no news may be good news… NYGHS gives CO with no interview for a lot of cases. -

Hi orange juice,
My DD took RGS GAT end June, attended selection test on the 9 July. Since yr DD GAT is on the 9 July, it should take a couple of days more. The NYGH GAT is indeed the same. RGS GAT = same amount of questions but 20 mins without paper to work on, NYGH= same questions but 60 mins with paper to work on. Come to look at it, RGS prob looking at speed and accuracy (my DD did not finish all questions) NYGH gave more time, so more students will have the chance to think better, hence do better? Prob more will pass given the time and they will choose the \"higher passes\"??

yes, the magic number 80. This is what I told my DS. Told him he must take his daily work seriously as this is the area that he should not lose marks. I can imagine how busy the parents are.. & I can also foresee that I'll need to take leaves from work next year....8228:
My ds is P5 this year. Following this thread for the past few weeks has been very tiring for me. Can't imagine how I will feel next year.
I started visiting KS web site end of last year, when my DS was in P5 going to P6. Did not take anything seriously until my DS mid year result released. Most of his friends from the same school or different schools scored >80% but he did not make it to the \"magic\" number 80%.
If your DS is in GEP and his & your dream schools are RI/HCI/ACSI, I would suggest to give your full support and encouragement to your DS to get >80% for SA1. The rest is secondary. Your DS DSA route will be different...I am someone who is experiencing it now....however you may not agree with me.

Yes' sometimes I couldn't help but felt that my DD finds it amusing that as parents, we are more stress n kang cheong than her, :frustrated: yet they are the ones being put thru some DSA. To her is just another test.
All the best -

During my dd's time, those who were in GEP, scored >80% and did HCL received CO calls from NYGH before either NYGH or RGS began conducting their interviews for GEP students. Perhaps they've changed their schedule this year. In any case, so long as none of your dd's friends receive calls from NYGH there's no need to worry. I'm sure you'll hear from them soon enough. And when you do, be sure to share your good news. Did your dd apply for any other schools?
