I'm SUPER stressed too. My situation is, I live in Clementi, am old girl at ATS so qualify for 2A2. Unforunately, i only found out yesterday ATS is moving to holding campus in AMK 2013 for 2 years. I've a direct bus from my place now to ATS campus but not to AMK campus and the current journey now is 40-45min which is already a bit long I feel so AMK is out of the question.

If one kid I don't mind but I've 3! That is 3 kids times 6 years each of commuting. A bit siong right? I'm reluctant to move as I'm near many great secondary schools in Bukit Timah, NUS, polys etc.

I'm eligible for P2B at HPPS but I live 1-2km away and most prob will have to ballot this year.

Just discussed with my husband and have decided to take our chances with HPPS and give up ATS.

If you feel the school is good, then don't give up due to distance. Fyi, I stay in Queenstown and my boy goes to CHS, far isn't it? But in actual fact, its only 15min drive away. And most of the time, we leave home later than those taking school bus to New Town Pri and guess what, they arrive home around the same timing.


The only problem is when they have CCA.

Thanks for your encouragement! We don't have the luxury of personal chauffer for my boys. So I would expect them to be able to get themselves to and fro school by public transport by the time they are P3.

I've already made my withdrawal from ATS. Much as I would like my boys to have the same experience I had (6 wonderful years and a firm Chinese foundation in ATS), I do think the pros outweigh the cons of going to a nearer school be it at a better or lesser school to ATS.

I guess we know our kids best and at the end of the day, i KNOW my boys will struggle with the Higher Chinese and probably won't have that good a time in school if they feel they are not up to par compared to their peers. I've also forgotten most of my Chinese so I don't think it really makes much of a difference in later life as I've spoke zero Mandarin since leaving Sec 4.

Good luck to all parents trying for ATS. I hope not much has changed since my time as I had a really good six years when I studied there.

Im staying at within 1KM from ATS, thought of applying for ATS for my boy next year. But after seem the numbers of vacancies only left 19 for Phase 2C just wonder should I take the high risk to reg my boy to ATS. I know the chance to get in is really super low, and im very very worried if I cant get in how...

Can Anyone advice me pls…..

To be honest, why has intakes near these areas increase drastically?


It’s because of the new flats! The DBSS near CHS? Just this alone can kill. I’m baffled to why these schools dun want to increase their intakes. Even Maris Stella has 330 seats and it’s at ulu place. Why CHS has only 240 even though the area is high densely populated (after fighting for another new class to be opened).

Maybe they should use empty space to build more classrooms.

I am in the same situation as u, applying for Nanyang for my dd under Phase 2c within 1km. If we did not try, there will always be this niggering thought of \"what if we had tried\". DH says \"just do it! everything boils down to luck now\". I am also feeling super, duper stressed right now. I can only wish both of us the best of luck :xedfingers:

Best of luck Fur-ma. Yes, getting that letter is not easy and you are really lucky to get it. If you choose to give up this chance to ballot, I am sure the other parents who are going to register next week will thank you as they have 1 less person to worry about

Ha Ha. Agree. Can't help seeing the irony of the situation. Parents like me who have plan B and take the less risky route by going for plan B are increasing the chances of parents with no plan B.

In the case for balloting, if your chance is like 75% & above maybe would give it a try. If chance is like 25% I would suggest go for another primary school. You need to remember that once Phase 2C is over, the places left in Phase 2C Supplementary would be very limited.


Of course there would be some parents insist to be 100% safe in which not to avoid any balloting situation. Just get into another school as a backup. Looking at ATS with 19 places in Phase 2B is very daunting.

Just a word to fellow kan cheong parents like me.


While I’m stressing myself to bits hoping my boy gets into my 1st choice school, my husband is so laissez-faire. He says the "best" school might not be the best one for our kids. Which is true I guess, at the end of the day, no matter what school, we will still help our kids to the best of their ability to excel.

So let’s not be TOO Disappointed if we don’t get into our 1st choice. Maybe our DDs or DSs will top the class in our next choice schools. Imagine what that will do to their confidence!
