      Hi Parents,

Im staying at within 1KM from ATS, thought of applying for ATS for my boy next year. But after seem the numbers of vacancies only left 19 for Phase 2C just wonder should I take the high risk to reg my boy to ATS. I know the chance to get in is really super low, and im very very worried if I cant get in how... πŸ˜“

      Can Anyone advice me pls…..
      Hi jh_mumloveu,

I am in the same situation as u, applying for Nanyang for my dd under Phase 2c within 1km. If we did not try, there will always be this niggering thought of \"what if we had tried\". DH says \"just do it! everything boils down to luck now\". I am also feeling super, duper stressed right now. I can only wish both of us the best of luck :xedfingers:

Best of luck Fur-ma. Yes, getting that letter is not easy and you are really lucky to get it. If you choose to give up this chance to ballot, I am sure the other parents who are going to register next week will thank you as they have 1 less person to worry about πŸ˜‰

Ha Ha. Agree. Can't help seeing the irony of the situation. Parents like me who have plan B and take the less risky route by going for plan B are increasing the chances of parents with no plan B.

        Hiu Fur-ma,

        Have you decided?

In the case for balloting, if your chance is like 75% & above maybe would give it a try. If chance is like 25% I would suggest go for another primary school. You need to remember that once Phase 2C is over, the places left in Phase 2C Supplementary would be very limited.

Of course there would be some parents insist to be 100% safe in which not to avoid any balloting situation. Just get into another school as a backup. Looking at ATS with 19 places in Phase 2B is very daunting.

Just a word to fellow kan cheong parents like me.

While I’m stressing myself to bits hoping my boy gets into my 1st choice school, my husband is so laissez-faire. He says the "best" school might not be the best one for our kids. Which is true I guess, at the end of the day, no matter what school, we will still help our kids to the best of their ability to excel.

So let’s not be TOO Disappointed if we don’t get into our 1st choice. Maybe our DDs or DSs will top the class in our next choice schools. Imagine what that will do to their confidence!

            Good luck to all!

Yes, PSLE, but if screw up still got O-level, if screw up still got A-level, this one if screw up, bye bye unis.

My plan is to go look see tmr morning at AT n KCP and hope the answer will hit me like a ton of bricks. Ha Ha.

In the meantime, I have been chatting with some parents whose kids r at KCP n all say their kids are enjoying school. Arts is taught by NAFA teachers which impresses me. I have also combed this thread from page 1 and it seems that KCP generally gets positive feedback. For all the hype, no one has given any feedback about AT, only about how to get in

Oh yeah and I purposely took the bus this morning that goes from my place to KCP to check out the timing and safety if dd has to take the bus when she is older. V do-able - about 20 to 30 mins and only cross the small road from the school to the opposite bus stop.

That's the end of my research πŸ˜‚

I know of someone whose son went to CHS. But for secondary, he couldn't do well enough to go to CH. So he went to KCP Sec school. He commented to me that his son is so much happier now and strive to do better which was so different when he was in CH. In fact when he used to \"fail\" maths, now he can score 80 plus for secondary school.

So sometimes, it doesn't mean that a \"top\" primary school is the best thing for a child. It depends on the child too. If they always feel like a ikan billi in a big pond, it does not do wonders to their self-esteem. As we all know, the \"top\" school tend to have even more KSP who will send their kids to all sorts of enrichment lessons. So if you think you are good, someone else will be even better. It's just so competitive.

Also heard my sil commenting that my P5 nephew from another top school in Singapore seems to be still far away from PSLE standard which he will be sitting for next year. So again..... a top school might do wonders to some top students and showed stellar performance but might not do wonders to average ones? His brother who went to this top primary school eventually ended up in some neighbourhood sec school in bedok area.

For us, I don't expect my kids to be top of cohort so long as they do their best and are above average, that is my expectations.

I guess you are aware that KCPPS is moving to its temp holding sch in AMK in 2013. I stay in Bishan and there is no direct bus from here to the temp. sch in AMK. When that time comes, I'll be driving her to sch in the morning, but have not think of how to deal with after sch yet. She'll be in P5 by then, with supplementary lessons, CCAs, etc.

Re: P1 registration, I was kinda in the same situation as you now. But staying in Bishan means 1-2km from ATS. I joined as SHHK member to be eligible for P2B in ATS (I received the recommendation ltr) and PV in KCPPS as a backup. When come P2B registration, balloting for 1-2 km and abt 50% chance for me (then, there were 34 within 1km and leftover 5 places for 1-2km for balloting). I gave up the chance to register in ATS (not a very lucky person you see πŸ˜‰ ) and went for KCPPS. So far, no complain abt the sch from my child, her only complaint is the student care I sent her to :slapshead:

In any case, best of luck in the P1 registration!
