Thank you, Castle House. Racial harmony should come natural for us Singaporeans... an unspoken way of life that makes our community unique and one that stands out from other battling countries. I knew after i met him face to face that i CANNOT depend on this teacher to ensure my DD has a
solid foundation of the concepts taught at P3. I even shared with him how to make his lessons less
boardy (whiteboard teaching=rote learning) and shared with him my materials. I believe
good things are for sharing and i vote for anything good that can benefit children in general.

Shouldn't you highlight this to the HOD and find out how the teacher gets to be a teacher? I would. You can't be watching the teachers all the time.

I believe everyone deserves a chance and we are talking about someone's rice bowl here. Poor pronunciation could be a habit or how he has grown up with all this time and may not help much even with a complaint. He kept in touch with me and asked for ideas plus hope to work hand in hand with me with regards to certain issues we've discussed. That shows some hope.. :xedfingers: I'm making him an unfortunate example to cite the basic reality that there ain't all great teachers in one school... as yet. There will be one-offs just like him.. how we judge a school based on good, fair or excellent is honestly just general. Plus you have to also bear in the factor that there will be staff turnover within a school.. principal included. Just to update, i informed the Principal abt the issue and while not much could be done due to short of manpower, he WAS on the radar.. esp when i feedback abt something he wrote in my DDs assignment. But this is classified & resolved.. but nevertheless still tardy. Yes, agree.. we can't be watching teachers all the time. I was only watching this one. :rubhands: The rest both my DDs had as subject teachers ARE indeed the extraordinary ones. :grphug: No complains.

of mere hearsay. Any comment based on race as being a factor

preferred one. Be mindful and more sensitive of the multi-racial

To answer ksunflower constructively, Unity Primary was one
neighbourhood school with a student scoring one of the top
PSLE results... (cannot pin on which year at this moment).
A student of mine went there and the mother said while it
was initially a matter of convenience sending her daughter
there, she was very heartened to find that her daughter is
enjoying school a lot and the teachers are caring.

Yew Tee Pri has a good principal who leads the school by
being involved herself and her innovative ideas brought
to the school has inspired the teachers hence benefitting
the students on the whole in general.

While making comparisons between schools in general, do
bear in mind that in a human-reliant industry it is really the
teachers teaching your child's class that matters. There are
market spoilers everywhere including the teaching industry.
So, while some parents rave that their children are doing
great in their respective classes, a handful of others may
beg to differ due to a different teacher with different
teaching styles.

Citing my own personal experience, in the same school where
my DDs attend... P1 teacher was of extraordinary calibre while
the elder DD at P3 back then had a crappy one who couldn't even

I for one will send my child to a school with more racial diversity. I came from a so-called \"SAP\" school and only had friends of other races in Polytechnic. I find myself unable to relate to them for a while and had a huge learning curve in understanding other cultures. Wouldn't want my child to grow up in a Chinese only environment. It's just not healthy.

Good on you to correct the teacher! I would have done the same.

So, you did do something about it. I know schools are alway short of manpower but at least you get a perspective from the school and it does show if it makes a \"great\" school or not. I have only hearsay abt a school principal that protect her teacher and hence drove the parent away to another school ... I heard is rather badly managed but the Principal has moved on to another school.

Thanks for sharing abt the incident... no matter what school the kid goes to, the parent always hope/wish/pray that he/she gets a good teacher.

Like what you say, its just a hearsay thing I gather from another mommy. Of course I would love to hear feedbacks from Unity as well since I’m sending my child to Unity and race is not a factor in my decision making. But sadly no one replys about this school and I’m new to this forum. I’m aware SV has a topic of its own, but what about Unity PS? Could you advise where I could find more information and feedbacks about this school?

Hi all, my child is also entering pri 1 next yr n we’re in phase 2C (lazy me didn’t do volunteer n now regret). there are both 100+ vacancies in yew tee n unity pri each. i’ve seen the within 1km map n realised that almost more than half of the flats in yew tee qualify for that. i stayed within 1km of both schools. how high is the chance of securing a place? thx u!
