I understand that the GEP course works are pegged two or three years above the normal main stream syllb. That why those GEP students find it ok or no problem to study in the IP program. I give an example the current P5 GEP math are learning some sec 1 or sec 2 maths; Eng comphren. are even very tough to score above 12/20, etc, some of the Comphre are O level standard. This is a very crazy system. Standard is getting higher and higher, I advise parents please think carefully to send your child to IP program. If you have any doubt pls check with those student from RV. The current Sec 1 students are doing some of Sec 3 Maths. Thank u

Recently I spoke to a neighbour whose son is in RV Sec1 this year. The dad says everyday his son is busy with sch work. I always see the boy coming home ard 5pm. Is this the norm?

A casual acquintance told me her dd's pri sch classmate flunked most of her class test in RV. Is it only RV or most IP schs are like what you hv mentioned- pegged sec 1 at sec 3 level?

No! I am not a parent from RV, but just like you, friend told me about the problem that RV student are facing, many of them could not cope with the work load. One of the main different is most of the GEP students went to the top IP school that why there are relatively fine and ok

Haha - even those not in IP experience the same. My girl is in a SAP non-IP school.

When my girl was in Sec 1 & sec 2, she was flunking many of her subjects and doing well occasionally. It was like a cycle. 1 test do badly, 1 test do ok, or better, or good. So her performance was considerably average and we even thot it poor. But now that she's in Sec 3, she's aceing her core subjects and we are seeing improvements in her languages.

Maybe there is quite a step from pri sch to sec sch, but they get there eventually.

From the recent release of DSA offers from NYGH, I found that there are girls who are the very top in their CCA in the whole of SG, but were rejected while those who are not as good were offered. Possibly they are now moving towards taking in only students that they think can cope in IP programme.

Yes right...my son is in Year2 in an IP school now...SUPER busy and tough... got to be really independent...and no amount of tuition outside can help. Though no 'O' level exams but they have other tasks or projects to ensure the students are challenged and prepared for 'A' levels.

Just my input on what i personally know based on my son's current experience.

Can let us know which IP sch is it?

Hi doesn't matter which IP school really...but it's not ACS ( I) and Dunman High is all i will say. And also he was not from the gifted program. And yes even i hv to \"make appointment\" to talk or discuss things with him because he's usually home late and lots of assignments to do ...tests etc..

Hm, this sec sch life is really so unimaginable hardwork.

But he and his school or class friends find such life a norm because the teachers are very helpful and supportive and also he always says he is not alone in this kind of life in school. He is happier now compare to y1 when just entered.

My son reaches home almost 8pm 4 days a week. Only when his dad is able to pick him up from school can he reach home earlier. So, this is normal. (CCA commitments esp. during competition seasons, 3rd Lang & etc). Weekdays very busy. Weekends catch up on sleep & more relax.
