Hi, so happy that dd is on the 3d book of 卫斯理-玩具 after finished the 老猫 and 寻梦. The reading pace is quite slow but we are happy that she is keen to conitnuous with this series of books. 😂

      Hi Brenda,
Can you share with us on how you get your girl to read all these chinese books? Do you need to sit down and read together with her initially as most kids that I know are very reluctant to read chinese story books. Thanks.

      Hi PiggyLalala,

We don't need to sit with her and just provide suppot when she approach us for the new word that she come across.

I remembered she started with the comics of 小白龙 and until today she still would take out to read.

Other books like 小学华文补充读物,哥妹俩 also help to cultivate the interest.

The series of novel like 笑猫日记, 淘气包马小跳系列 do also further help her to get use to CL novel.

Then she slowly moves into another series of books like 卫斯理.

In addition, the exposure to CL shows and song are equally very important.

      Hope the above information help.

          brenda10,
my boy is in P3 this year and we have a '2-short stories' per night CL reading daily. he cannot read independently yet despite the HYPY given because he don't know or will misintepret some of the vocab used in the story so i am kindof scare of letting him read alone.

            Hi jedamum

I personally don't encourage book that printed with HYPI next to the all the text while they are reading.

Comic book like xiao bai long would give the HYPI to some word separately at the footnote if the child needs to refer.

I find the effective way to register the vocab and use correctly is to build into the daily conversation.

            Just my 2 cents thought.

haha...HYPY is my lazy way to get ds1 to read CL books. cos i am not good at the words itself. i just want him to be able to appreciate the story.
he does not like xiao bai long or da mu zhi comic. 😞

I am finally nearing the end of "好妈妈胜过好老师"! anyone still reading this?

Very curious on what the " 小动物" she refers to in one chapter refers to, the one that she has such an irrational fear of that she can’t even look at/write the name without freaking out. anyone knows if she’s blogged about it or something?

Where to buy 小学华文补充读物, 哥妹俩 and 小白龙? Any online store that I can order?

For 小学华文补充读物, is it a story book and the words are relevant to the school textbook? How about 哥妹俩, is it comics?

                  Thanks a lot.. 🙂

                    Hi Brenda,

How old is yr DD? I remember that I read the whole series of 卫斯里 fm upper Pri to Sec… so long ago, I cannot remember if it is too difficult for lower Pri? My DS is in P3 and he does not read CL books on his own except the ‘Little White Dragon’ and ‘Doremon’.

                      Hi allseasons

For 小学华文补充读物, you can borrow from library or buy it from popular Bras Brash or Toa Payoh as I still see them at these two stores. (Hopefully is still available)

The books are story books and I would think is alright for the primary school children.

The books were published in 1985/1986 but revised edition on Year 2005.
                      (Information extracted from the volume 4 - suitable for P4 & P5 and Volume 5 - suitable for P5 & P6 respectively.)

For 哥妹俩, think most of the popular are selling and those books that we bought are in comics.

For 小白龙, seems like no more selling in Popular but we saw it at the Suntec book fair this May.

                      Their website: http://dobystudio.com

Hope the above information useful. 😂

                        Hi Atan,

DD is P6 this year. I also read all these books many years ago.

I personally think the books are more suitable for upper primary as the story book like 寻梦 is about 100k++ words and the font size is quite similar to CL news paper text.

                        Just my 2 cents thought
