Preschool Teachers in Singapore
-
I have recently gone thru, in fact, still going thru one round of hiring local teacher. The heartache of doing this is making me want to quit.
Starting advertising in Jan. March 1 supposed to have 1 start work - no show on that day and not contactable. Continue with advertisements etc… May 3, two teachers reported to work. May 4, told me don’t want to continue because feel that my centre is weird - with so many foreign teachers. May 9, 1 more started and this morning, she called to say she tender her resignation with immediate effect due to family issue.
The government has also cut off our route to hire foreign teachers. If it is not because I needed these 2 local headcounts, I would have gone straight for foreigners. I had 2 blissful years of almost 0 turnover because of this mostly foreign workforce. Now, with 1 renewal being rejected even after appeal. And the 2 local teachers that I had being poached by you know who…
Sorry I just had to vent. I am so so so frustrated. -

And here i am :frustrated: too... cos i cannot find good boss.meowal:

hahaha...you haven't got used to this problem experienced by almost every centre in Singapore?
Rest assured you are not the only frustrating one in the industry. Me facing this problem for years and so kind of immune to it oredi. Short teachers, other teachers chip in lor, kids probably facing more accidents lor, more parental complaints lor, what to do?
Even when i thought i finally found a good one, they try to either
plot to gimme more work within same hours and pay or they try to
cut my pay.. Sigh. So finally, i quit. Or rather, i sack my boss.
Now i am my own boss. MARKETing Managing Directress. I manage hubs
who does the marketing. Ya.. i only do the directing..

Any teachers around can tell more about this career? just saw the blog above... hard to go back to working life once a teacher?
does the teachers still have to bath and clean up after children in school or now got cleaners? -
 In my ds and dd's childcare, bathing, cleaning up of children when they poo or vomit are part of the teachers' job. Including changing of diapers as well a couple of times a day......
I think only those premium ones ur done by aunties.... -
I thought bathing already done by non-teachers? Went to enrol my kid in a school before, heard the incharge said bathing got auntie to do...
I wanted to join teaching and enjoy playing with kids, but don't really want to clean poos. Kindergarten teachers also need to clean poos and vomit :? -
Actually I thought Chinese teacher in kindergarten does only teach chinese and planning for lessons…
Not sure is it good to join this career line if I don’t like cleaning poos. -
Wonder why people are so blind. You just need to stay home for a day with your own kid (without the maid) & you’ll get a good feel of what a childcare teacher need to do on a daily basis, multiply by 4/8/12 (depending on the teacher-student ratio) & plus the fact that the kids are not your own, which means you’re answerable to the parents for everything big & small.
Hubby ever asked me why I don’t consider going into this line since I seem to love spending time with our kids. I told him he must be mad. Just taking care of our 2 kids (with his help) for a whole day when the maid is on off-day drives me completely nuts & I’m always so exhausted by the time half the day is gone. I’ll die if I have to handle so many kids on a daily basis.
I’ve sent my elder son to childcare for less than a month, & already he’s showing improvement in his motor skills, speech, independence, etc. I honestly have no idea how the teachers did it, & there’re still people who tell me that I should spot-check on the teachers occasionally so that they do not slack? Firstly, I think it is the Principal’s job to make sure the teachers are doing their jobs. Secondly, why should I send my son to a childcare I cannot trust in the first place? Thirdly, given his positive developments despite his short time there (not to mention the lack of negative developments), I don’t really want to know. As long as he’s happy & he continue to show positive developments, I don’t want to interfere too much. I rather leave it to the teachers to concentrate on doing their jobs properly rather than constantly wasting time & energy having to report to me, etc… I think that’ll be more beneficial for my son too.
So, to all the childcare teachers out there, you definitely have my utmost respect. -
