              Hi Pianojazzy

My 3.3 yrs daughter will be completing her little notes classes in Yamaha next month. The next stage at Yamaha will be music wonderland. At this age, is it recommended to have private music lessons? Can share some info?

Actually i have students from 2.5 yr old and 1 to 1 lessons did not spoil their interests. In fact they are so interested and motivated. But of cos it depends on individual.

Young children have mood swings so do not expect them to learn like a 5/6 yr old child. However, most of my 2-3 yr old students are coping very well as i have lots of activities to keep them occupied and motivate them. But again, there are some children who cannot take it and will have to wait for half a year or 1 yr later.

But you wonโ€™t know if you donโ€™t try it. So maybe you can send a child for a trial lesson first.

One of my girlfriends child was doing Violin with Nafa. Child is very smart and practically mom makes child practise everyday cos there is also a so called surprise test.. Her child did not make it during test and asks to leave! It's a common practise. Now they resort to taking private lessons. Unless we r prepared to put our child to that kind of 'Nafa' environment.. They only take in cream of e crop.

The price of excellence is hardwork. And if hardwork can complement in-born talent and interest, we have a champion in the making. If the kid has talent, but no interest in exploiting the talent for whatever reasons, then forcing them on a daily drill accomplishes nothing, or even worse, turn them off completely. Go for NAFA only if your child has a burning desire to excel in music. Otherwise, go for something a lot more lightweight.
