[Bukit Panjang] Primary Schools

TheInsiderNews:
Just came back from Beacon's Pri Open Hse this evening... Had an interesting discussion with the educators & was pretty satisfied with the school's facilities. Observation made: Funding for the IT-related infrastructure for the school must be way above the rest of the budget of other schs in the area...
Absolutely agree, regarding the budget.

Hi I was there too. Can't make a comparison because haven't gone to other primary school open house before. We like the IT facilities too and the school compound looks very spacious. DD was very excited throughout the guided tour and couldn't contain her smiles while sitting in the classroom during the demo on the classroom teaching tools. Believe she will be able to transit to P1 easily much much better than her mommy did donkey yrs ago :rahrah:

So you confirm applying f/ this school? I think can register online too. :)))
Are within 1 - 2 km?
Another thing to think about is... because this school is really new.. we haven't see their result yet... So for me, though I'm impress w/ Beacon, I still go to the old school that has been established for quite awhile. They hv more experience and we can see the result already... imho. -
Alkanet, eh I’m actually 1 year away from p1 registration. Doing PV there so brought DH and DD to have a feel of the school. Our options are open, at least this gives me a mostly guaranteed place in phase 2b then see how situation is like at phase 2c next year. Understand your concern about school having no past track record. So you will most likely go for which school?

i was at Zhenghua's and Greenridge's open house. I wanted to go to Beacon's but couldn't find babysitter for my 2 year old.
Do you think BPPS will allow parents to schedule a visit to the school? Just to walk around and have a feel (and see how the students carry themselves) of the school? -

I came to Greenridge Primary School.
The teacher are attentive & caring. The students are polite n helpful. They are so sweet. :))) During a session in a class, I can see that the teachers really put in their efforts to help the students. Nurturing the students to be more confidence to speak in front of the class, etc. They adopt the holistic approach. Means, no exams for the first 2 yrs (if I'm not mistaken). They do hv small tests but the scoring system is different. They use so called 'smiley face' instead of numbers.
The building is not a bit old & some parts are dusty but somewat homy... They do hv their own climbing wall & even a fish pond. :))) And in a session in a class they showed us how they use the remote-receiver tech for the students to answer questions on the screen.
They hv quite variety of CCA. I guess their strong cca are lion dance, rock climbing & wushu.
They gv us goodie bag after we gave the feedback in their mini laptops. :)))
My only regret just if only they organize the open house more systematic like guided group tour, it could be better. Because they actually have a lot of session & many things to tell, but we don't get the list beforehand, so when I was filling up the feedback then I knew that they have all of these... -
Comparing zps students and gps’s, it looked like zps students were more outspoken and confident. I was brought ard the sch by 3 different students and they spoke loud and clear (above the noisy background) and answered all my questions knowingly. Gps students appeared more well behaved, although they sounded like they recited lines when I spoke to them. Abit rigid. But that isn’t such a bad thing to me. The teachers at zps I observed, appeared to be like they are ‘mentorfriends’ whereas in gps, teachers seem to be less chummy with students and I can see the teachers command alot of respect from the students.
Organization and execution of Zps open hse was pretty messy. Gps’s, i agree with alkanet, left me blur. Principal talk got cancelled but no one was informed, concurrent sessions going on but too many workshops that KS parents like me want to attend but cant because it clashed with other workshop timings. Execution not so gd. Plus info at their website was updated only 3 days before open Hse. Word did not get ard quickly enough and not many ppl came. -
Programme wise, I’d go for gps. Altho I’d love to see abit of zps’s vibrancy in gps.
