Hey! I agree with you! Priority should be given to S’pore citizens first!!! I think the Education Minister should seriously consider this matter!

              Agree with Jedamum.

Actually, shouldn't phase 2A be subjected to the same distance ruling? So, instead of giving priority to phase 2A, divide the remaining places after phase 1 equally amongst the phase 2A, 2B and 2C. In the case of popular schools like Catholic, AiTong, St. Nic, these does increase the vacancies in phase2B and 2C quite substantially. It is somehow unfair to those who stay close to the school and yet subject to balloting (or 1-2km no chance even to ballot) when someone who stays far away from the school (e.g. I'm aware of: staying in Pasir Ris, kid in AiTong, staying in Ponggol, kid in RGS, staying in Jurong, kid in Pei Chun). With the distance, parents will need to ferry the kid to school by private cars, thus causing the traffic jams along these schools.
              Agree with Red_Rhino.

I was saddened by the fact that some PVs put in efforts in the schools yet didn't get balloted in. It'll be even more sad after Phase 2C - to see children not able to get into the schools next door, but to take a bus to further schools.

I think Phase 2A2 can be considered as \"contributed to the schools in the past\". Current contribution (Phase 2B) should be as good as past contribution (Phase 2A2), if not better. Shouldn't it be given the same priority to those in Phase 2A2? So, I support the idea of \"divide the remaining places after phase 1 equally amongst the phase 2A, 2B and 2C.\"

As for balloting in Phase 2A and 2B, it may be a better idea to ballot regardless of distance from school. Whether one stays within 1 km or beyond 2km, one has contributed one's substantial effort. And we shouldn't measure the effort by how far one stays or \"discount\" the chance if one stays too far. Whereas for Phase 2C, distance plays a part - to give more chance for children staying nearer to the schools.

For Phase 2A2 - \"child whose parent is a staff\" - should be considered as good as Phase 1. It's more logical and convenient if the child goes to the same school as the parent works.

the report was partially incorrect and was unfair to the school. that PV should be asked why she need to do 100 hrs whereas other PVs just need to fulfill 40hrs of work....If you are in for the game, please be prepared to go home empty-handed and accept the result sportingly. No point throwing mug at school just because you can't secure a place for your kid....

I’ve read through a few pages of archives.

How about scrapping P2B totally? After P2A2, all remaining vacancies to be given to P2C, and balloting is done according to distance from school. Let the volunteer work be genuinely volunteer work; let the ones who have faith genuinely go to the church/temple for that reason; let the ones who sign up at clans memberships be the ones who genuinely think there is a reason to do so etc…

In this case, there is no need to give carve out another phase to give special treatment to this group of people.

That is actually an interesting idea. It would also spare those with genuine intentions from unnecessary misunderstandings. To share our experience, we attend a church with affiliations to a certain group of schools in Singapore. And since I had pre-school children who would be undergoing P1 registration in a couple of years when we first started, we were oftentimes given the \"look\", and even had people come up to us and say, \"I hope you are not attending our church just to register your children for our primary schools.\" Most unpleasant and unnecessary as we were going to register our children with our old schools, so didn't need the affiliation.

As for parent volunteer, why not ask those whose children have already got into the school to PV? Then it would prevent those disappointing situations of parents who have PVed and did not manage to get into their school of choice. After all, as a parent with a kid already in the school, it would be helpful to participate as that benefits the school (and ultimately our children who are studying there). Plus we get to know the school teachers/curriculum/CCA's/programs better. If anything, our kids may just be proud and happy to see Mummy and/or Daddy participate in school activities - of course, I am largely referring to primary kids; secondary/teenage children may not be too thrilled by that as most teenagers are known to be embarrassed by their parents (been there, done that)
