      Ignoring the snide postings and red herrings aimed at confusing the discussion, we should just revert to the core question, on what basis is Phase 2A valid? So far, a whole lot of smoke and mirrors and scaremongering regarding ‘entrance exams’ for P1, which I did not advocate at all. At the root of it, the deathly fear that their precious offspring of offspring be denied a place at a premiere primary school, like NYPS (or somewhat), hence putting paid their best laid plans. Vested interests, nothing more.

      There is a problem, but vested interests prevent from even starting to look at a solution. No they would not even countenance a discussion on the matter, but do all they can to put tripwire, ridicule and stonewall.

            Entrance exam national wide poses execution problem - assuming all 6 year old child (appx 30k plus) can sit down and take meaningful test, then should PR/Foreigner be given equal chance ? how will the posting be like (won’t distance be another factor during placement) ? not all child have the luxury of enrichment classes ? will it not create greater social divide ?

            Since Singapore is among top "gambler" worldwide, let’s do balloting instead, we can have say 3 rounds national wide balloting. You can place your "bet" at popular school (regardless of distance) or you can choose school that is most convenient or what not. After 1st round, popular school places should be gone after round 1, results are made known through various media…till end of round 3. Those that have not gotten a place (not many) will be allocated by MOE.

            Singaporean should have more votes compared to non-Singaporean.

              Phase 2A advocates (alumni) generally settle down on 2 arguments;

              1) Life’s not fair, deal with it

              2) Well, a small (read miniscule) number of alumni are actually hugely active during school (primary) and even beyond. Therefore, we should allow ALL alumni priority on Phase 2A, even if they are riding on the coat-tails of others, and fairness be damned.

              I leave it to you to judge the validity of those arguments, vis-a-vis the motivations.

You can place your \"bet\" at popular school (regardless of distance) or you can choose school that is most convenient or what not. Such is the success of smokescreen and mis-information. I did not advocate examinations for 6-y.o, someone suggested it as a scare-mongering tactic. Provoking such a response generally tells me I'm on the right track 😉

                Some balloting system that is distance-based (broadly) is what I'd advocate for the current Phase 2A/B/C categories, all rolled into one.

                  National wide balloting seem the fairest but would it bring down the national academic standard ? afterall current system \"successfully\" created sought after school and MOE set up GEP/SAP...etc - so it will not happen - I brought national wide balloting just for the sake of fairness discussion. 😄

                    DW and my primary school are gone and my 3 boys yet to attend primary school but i feel that P2A should remain as it somehow helps to preserve and enhance the school academic and or other successes (afterall gene plays a big part).

                    So for KS parent like me, tried various methods (P2B-PV/GRL/Clan) to get into school of choice plus enrichment classes plus condusive home envirorment...etc hoping to bring the best out of them in school. :grphug:

                      what nothing?

                      PV get their chance to register in phase 2B, one phase ahead of majority people.

                      they can only blame their luck if they failed in phase 2B.

                        next time before PVs start doing the work, school must get them to sign Letter of Indemnity and to write 10000 lines of the meaning of volunteer....
