Piano seems to be the \"standard\" instrument for kids...anyone thot of getting the child to learn something more exotic...like er hu or something

Why do you select what you term as the \"exotic\" erhu? hehe.
Anyway, can't teach a 2 or 3 year old erhu. The most is show him the parts of the erhu, inner string/outer string, and how to how the bow. Basically, the whole instrument is too large. Unless someone can tell me where to get a 1/16th-size erhu? -
My DD wanted to learn piano, any recommendation in the east? And what kind of piano to get for home practice? At this point, to get a piano, space and budget is an issue.
Thanks! -

How old is your dd? For fresh beginner, I think keyboard is enough. Ascertain her interests before investing in a piano
Mine used to attend Seimpi encore programme. We prefer group class for a start hence we picked this music school. 2 locations parkway & white sand. -

I would assume she have interests as she is the one asking for it... Just like her ballet class, she requested, sent her n sis there both love it... -

However, while the key is as heavy in pressing down, the response to the finger of the keys coming back to the finger tip is significantly different due to the design of digital piano and real piano.
There are 2 differences that relate to the quality of the sound you play:
(1) The landing of the keys after pressing down feels different. Due to the design of the electronic piano, the way to imitate the loudness and soundness of the sound is determined by the velocity (speed) at which you press down. Being loud would mean playing hard and striking speed is faster, hence the keyboard will sense the speed and translate to the dynamics of the note. as the landing is electronic contact points, it will be harder than the real piano. This will also affect the way we play the piano too as subtle as it is to form unconventional habits that can surface when switch to the real piano.
(2) Real piano hammer flings back after hitting the strings and will create a slight jolt to the arm of the hammer, which will transmit back to the keys.
In higher level skills, such feedback to the fingers will tell you how well you are playing the keys to gauge the quality of sound. Hence the expectations will have to be managed over choice of keyboard. -

You need to check with the school directly re: placement. I recall dd's classmates were around her age plus minus a few months apart.I have 2 girls 6 n 4... wonder can both start tog? Is there any keyboard with the 'key' heavy like piano? Hope DD can get used the amt of strength to use?

We bought a yamaha U3 after dd converted to individual piano lessons. Prior to that, while attending group lessons, she practised on our existing yamaha keyboard at home.

Dear experts,
When you mentioned “must have strong foundation”,
can you elaborate in details what is covered in this foundation?
I have just started DS in music school. Do not wish to waste time
and efforts for choosing the wrong teacher.
I am sitting in with DS, so can observe his method with your guidelines.
Kindly advise.
regards -
Good foundation covers concepts such as grasping of rhythm, note reading, good hand position, good posture/sitting position, noticing high and low pitches, loud and soft. That’s for starters.
