Anyone has recommendations for good ballet classes near marine parade? Went to Music&Ballet at parkway branch but didn't really like it.Went for trial at Amy School of dance near paya lebah. Liked what I see but they are offering ATOD syllabus. Torn between signing up and finding some other places. Any advice for this newbie here? :?

you may try Crestar Marine Parade:-

        http://dance.crestar.com.sg/

they just built a new HDB lift. So can take the lift directly, no need to climb stairs like last time.

besides weekend, they also have baby ballet on Monday night, around 7pm taught by angmo. Wed or Thursday evening also have kids ballet.

can call them at telephone: 6342-5600:-

before you sign up at Crestar or any other ballet school, ask the teacher this important qn - is she teaching RAD or CSTD to your child ?

          hi Penghu,

is Macpherson near yr place ?

if Yes, you can also try 'School of Dance' at Macpherson. It is the building beside Siemens, last time used to be '3 Rifle Shirts' building.

          http://www.the-schoolofdance.com/

dance school premises are very new, very modern, spacious, with large dance studio (a few). You'll fall in love with the place once you step in, bec it's very brand new & spacious, with mirrors everywhere.

the Principal of this dance school got standard!

I stood there watching her a long time, observe how she teach various level - kindergarten kids, primary school kids, Secondary school level girls. She's good!

you may got down and take a look.

RAD = Royal Academy of Dance
CSTD - Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dance.

The RAD syllabus is from UK and is very established. It is used widely around the world.

CSTD is from Australia and is much newer.

Both draw from the same fundamentals but the emphasis is slightly different. The RAD syllabus is more exacting and stricter. The CSTD syllabus emphasises more on performance. Both are recognized in Singapore but usually RAD is used as the benchmark.

                      hello Penghu,

is yr daughter 4 yrs old ?

why not try SBA (Singapore Ballet Academy) ?
this is the Professional school of dance - proven for decades of professional high standard, located at Waterloo street. The street where all the dance & drama activites heavily concentrate in!

convenient! if you take yellow Circle line MRT, alight at Bras Basah mrt station. Once take escalator up to road level, cross the road where you see Catholic church of 'St Peter & St Paul', there you're. Reached liao!

climb all the way up to the highest top floor, level 4.
if you panting during climbing - take a rest first, take a deep breath, swing your legs, slowly climb again. They are in the midst of planning to develop a lift, but not so fast.

                      website:
                      http://www.singaporeballetacademy.com.sg/coursesandtimetables.html

now, 4 yr old Nursery onwards still got vacancies at SBA.
They just started new classes for 1 Term only (approx. 3 mths), so yr child don't miss much. Hence, you don't need to wait until next yr to join.

just pay $16 assessment fee. They'll assess your child first on following:-

                      - physicality
                      - flexibility
                      - musicality

after assessment - a few days later, they'll post the results in a letter out to you. If you want faster reply, may provide them your email. Once your child pass, your child can join anytime.

the ballet teachers here are excellent!
they'll correct your child's dance posture, the right way of opening up her legs to stretch, etc, with soft music playing softly in the background.

                      maximum kids per class: 20

currently for Nursery 4 yr old onwards, all weekend slots (Saturday) full house. Only weekday (duration: 45 mins) still hv vacancies:-

Monday: 4.15 pm and 5 pm

                      Thursday: 4.30 pm

school fees for 3 mths: reasonable, not ex.

Hi phtthp! My daughter is 5. I did consider SBA but worried it might be a little far. Did tried calling to enquire more twice but didn’t have any luck to reach them yet. For Crestar, there are so many teachers. You have any recommendations. There are ms laureen, ms low, ms Loy, ms yew. I am considering Joo Chiat cc now. Hubby’s friend says not bad.
