Welcome. :rahrah:
Erm.. should be no test lah. Can't remember. But for past practice, they got 1 week orientation when sch reopens, so no need to bring sch bags for a week. They will give you more details during orientation day. -
No streaming at p1. Youβll know which class your son will be in from the letter youβll receive before orientation. Your son will be in the same class at p1 and P2. Streaming from p2 to p3.
The orientation is very informative. Need to bring sch bag since day 1. Youβll be informed which books that your son needs to bring.
No tests (other than spelling and ting xie) during term 1. The tests will start from term 2 onwards. -
[quote=\"JGMum\"]Hi,
I read in some other threads that in some schools, the kids are tested during orientation day or first day of school for P1 class streaming purpose. Does CHS do that during orientation or on first day of school? A little worried now, as I am not sure if my boy is \"exam/test\"-ready yet.

Welcome
No streaming for P1. However, the P1s took a multi-pages quiz in school earlier this month. Teachers didn't inform parents about this quiz, I think it's MOE quiz but not sure if it applies to all the P1s in Singapore or just selected schools/ classes. -

For this year, they have to bring school bags but some of the books (especially the activity booklets) will be kept in school so that the school bags will be lighter. I think the buddies guide them during the first 2 days only. It's almost \"normal school day\" from 3rd day onwards.Welcome. :rahrah:

Do the teachers of the core subjects (English, Chinese, Maths) remain the same since it's the same class at P1 and P2?No streaming at p1. Does CHS still practise streaming the pupils into the best class and 2nd best class from P2 to P3? Does the school inform the parents about this streaming or just do it without letting the parents know?
Thanks. -
Thank you to all for your warm welcome.
:thankyou: -

That's a relief, I can sleep better now. I can't imagine needing to prepare a pre-schooler for streaming tests. mom2two, thanks so much for the information.No streaming at p1. I will read through the earlier pages of this thread so I can get a better idea of how to prepare my boy for CHS. I think the key thing for me now is how to train him to buy his own food (he is very shy). Another practical thing I learnt from the earlier posts on this thread by kind parents is how much pocket money to give him. :lovesite:

Hi, parents are allowed to be in the canteen for the first 2 days of school. Buddies (P5 boys) will \"teach\" the P1 various things (they have a checklist) which include buying food from the canteen during recess. DS's kindergarten trained then how to buy food from canteen during K2 too (1 day). Of course, it is best if you can encourage him to buy things (start with non-spillable stuffs) from food courts, super markets, mini-marts (1 or 2 items) now so that he is comfortable with buying stuffs on his own. As parents we will naturally be worried. But kids learn very fast especially when they see their peers doing it
