staridea, you can always transfer your kid after P1. The waiting list should be quite long this year. PSG - Parents Support Group? I thought the kid need to be a student there before the parents can join the PSG?
Good luck. -
PSG and doing PV is different?
-
I think PV is just a part of PSG. If your kid is on waiting list now, it might be too late to do PV. Usually PV is performed 1 or 2 years before your kid registers for P1.

i live within 1 km of MS so securing a place for my DS should not be a problem. The issue is whether I should let him journey all the way to my alma mater…which is also hard to get in.
Anyone have considered between MS and ACPS before? -

Hi spikey,
I have not considered b/w MS and ACPS before and is just being kapo here....
Based on information from MOE website, places in the school are allocated accordingly to the order of priority laid out in the various phases of the Primary One Registration Exercise. There will be balloting amongst the applicants if the number of applications to a school exceeds the number of vacancies available in any of the phases from Phase 2A(1) to Phase 2C Supplementary. The remaining places in each school at the end of Phase 2A(2) will be allocated equally to Phase 2B and Phase 2C. ....
Technically speaking, except for phase 1, securing a place in Phase 2A(1) onwards are based on the number of applications versus the number of available vacancy for that year of registration.
I assume you are looking at phase 2A for ACPS and phase 2C for MS.
For many years, there is no balloting for phase 2C (<2km) for MS, but there is balloting now this year. I am not sure which year are you looking at to register your ds, since you live < 1km, your chance does look very good but still there is no guarantee.
As such, based on the way MOE allocate the places, just to be safe, I think I will go for Phase 2A ACPS. But if you really think MS is the choice you want for your ds, you can still watch the space for phase 2C for MS. I believe you can still withdraw from phase 2A and go for phase 2C when you are certain of your chances. Personally I have not done this before and not sure how this is done but this is what I think I will do if I am in your shoes (as I have been through the pain of P1 registration a few years back and regretted not doing any \"proper strategizing\").

Hi there,
I am considering whether doing PV for Nan Chiau to get in or getting into Maris Stella via Phase 2A as hubby is old boy. Any opinion which is a better choice? Thanks a lot!!! -
which sch is nearer to you? and does doing PV guarantee u a seat in 2B?
-
Maris Stella is nearer to me so have to shift if choose Nan Chiau. Doing PV heightens the chance but not guarantee. I heard Nan Chiau’s results is better than Maris Stella so pondering over the 2 choices.

Sometimes I feel like Maris Stella is way too "under rated". It is one of the best primary schools in Singapore. How many schools in Singapore can say that they have 82 students enter the GEP second round last year? That means about 22% - 25% ( 1 out of 4 ) of their students are among the top 10% in the nation.
Not too many people know about MSHS because their test papers are not sold in the market. In fact, their standard is one of the highest compare to those so called "top 10 primary schools". Besides, they prepare their students well for the PSLE. -
