[Bishan] Primary Schools
-
I also think the system needs to be reviewed.
First of all, I am ok with the old boys & old girls having priority. We had good experience in the school, and that's why we want our children to continue to be educated there. Priority for those staying within 1km is not as fair as it seems. My cousin who wanted her daughter to be in CHIJ St. Nicholas just paid close to $2M for a condo within 1Km from the school. So for certain schools, if you are rich enough, you can afford to be within 1km.
But the PRs should come later. Why is PR being placed together with the citizen children under the same phase?

Namie:
My colleague just got balloted out from a popular primary school in Jurong. She is now on waiting list and was told slim chance because the schools will have to give remaining places to foreigners first (Phase 3?), afterwhich, those citizen children will be considered.
Hi Namie!
Can you please clarify what you meant by your friend is \"now on the waiting list and was told slim chance\"? :?
If a school needs to go conduct balloting in Phase 2C, it means the school will not have any more places in Phase 2CS, let alone Phase 3. So, how to give remaining places to foreigners first? -
qms:
Not sure. My colleague went for balloting at Phase 2C. She was unsuccessful (40+ parents going for 10+ seats). Following that, she filled in a form to be on wait list. She told me her school told her what was mentioned above.Namie:

i also agree that the p1 reg system need to be changed esp in Phase 2c, besides giving singaporeans the priority, those who have only 1 sch within 1km from their hse should also have priority to reg 1st. There are some who have 2 or more schools to choose from eg those living within 1km from CH and KCP(Kuo Chuan). :x

staying > 2km and is still in the midst of completing my project PV with the sch in bishan. I can see my chances is super low basing on this year's statistics even if I move within 1km. my younger daughter will be another challenge for me in a few years later.. decided of letting go my PV here and go for mixed sch. would anyone be interested to take over PV :?

Are you talking about PV in CHS? Thought they would only grant PV for those staying less than 1 km, as it doesn't make sense for those staying more than 1 km.
Think it'll be better for you to try PV at mixed school.
And i don't think PV can be transferred? -
Hi, Iām a new parent to this forum and trying to get a handle around this whole P1 Registration Exercise.
1) Could someone shed a light on what Parent Volunteer activities entail? 2) How to up our chances of getting selected as a PV?
3) Should one volunteer and do PV at more than one school?
I live in Sin Ming area. Considering Ai Tong, Catholic, KCP.
Thanks a million! -

Hi hmkim!
hmkim:
It really depends on the school. Some schools take in whoever applied. Some schools have very stringent criteria. E.g. if I remember correctly, in Nan Hua, one parent was an architect. The school happened to be in the process of refurbishing the campus and here you go, the parent was successfully roped in as a PV to the school. Other schools assign parents as traffic wardens.1) Could someone shed a light on what Parent Volunteer activities entail? 2) How to up our chances of getting selected as a PV?
Do a search on the schools you are interested in. Find out what are their niche areas, and see how your skills/knowledge match with their niche areas.
Some schools take in PVs who stay within a certain distance.
Go through the balloting history, and evaluate your chances accordingly. Just because you are a PV doesn't gurantee your child a place in the school.hmkim:
Of course you can PV in more than one school, as long as you have the time. PV needs to clock at least 40 hours in a year before the child qualifies for Phase 2B registration. In other schools, PVs may need to clock min. 80 hours.3) Should one volunteer and do PV at more than one school?

CH is an extremely popular school.
I live in Sin Ming area. Considering Ai Tong, Catholic, KCP.
Based on past history, balloting for < 1km is required for CH in phase 2B.
So if you are not living within 1km, don't even bother with being a PV for CH.
