      Hi Tulip,

Got another query. May i know what is the school's expectation of Hanyu Pinyin at P1 ? My boy is currently attending the HYPY enrichment class offered by the kindergarten cos his Mandarin capability not on par with English.
Not to worry, they will be taught HYPY from the basics. So if your son is already taking HYPY lessons, the first half year will be easy for him.

Term 1 & 2, i.e. 1st half year until their SA1, they only need to know HYPY, worksheets and tingxie are all in HYPY only. Their SA1 also tested them on HYPY only, they were not required to write a single Chinese character in their SA1 paper. Their tingxie words are not difficult, I think your son should be able to manage

But come term 3 & 4, more Chinese characters will be introduced.

Hi Hi, glad that this thread was up. Good for parents like me who has very little info on KCPPS. My son will be in P1 in 2010.

Hi Tulip, would like to know if your girl is enjoying school so far? I saw you wrote they have homework to do everyday. Is it plenty? How are the teachers in this school? DO they work closely with parents?

Sorry for asking so many questions. So far the only feedback I received is this school is not bad but I find it very difficult to get more information maybe cos they do not "advertise" as much as some other schools on their website. The only detailed information I received is standard of the school has improved alot in the last 2 years.

                Hi summerlim,

Glad to welcome another parent to KCPPS

Yes, in term 1 and 2, my girl brought back homework almost everyday, but usually not plenty, maybe 2-4 pages. However, I noted in this new term (after the June holidays, I see lesser homework. My guess is that the kids are getting \"acclimatise\" to the schoolwork and are able to complete within a shorter time frame. They have other stuff like \"show and tell\", some examples of the topics are: \"My favourite Animal\", \"My favourite Park\", \"My favourite insect\", etc., where they will be asked to talk about the subject in front of the class. They are also asked to write a few lines on a subject given and also to illustrate it, this are usually homework given over the weekend as they will then have more time to complete.

I find the form teacher, who is also the English & Math subject teacher are more responsive to the parents as compared to the Mother Tongue teacher. I don't get much feedbacks from the MT teacher; whilst, the form teacher will sometimes sms me if there are some things I need to note, usually general stuff. We were given the namecard of the class form teacher during orientation day (or maybe 1st day of school, sorry, can't really remember), with the teacher's direct line and email address. I think some schools will only give out the tel. number to the teacher's room, not their direct lines.

At the end of each day, the class form teacher will lead her class students out to the parents waiting area (just by the car park). I noted that some teachers will hold a particular student and feedback to his/her parent if the child has been misbehaving, etc. There is only one Parent-meet-Teacher session in a year. For P1, it is scheduled just before the June school holidays.

                Hope the above info. helps.

                Cheers.

Thank you Tulip, for taking the time and providing me with the info I need. Yes, so the homework could be not being able to complete in class. I’m glad! I’m hoping the KCPPS is like that as I do not wish my boy to be "overloaded" with homework at the start of P!. If homework is given on Fridays, its alright.

Wow, teacher’s name card? I have not heard of this before. Most of the time like you mention, its the school phone number. Never the teacher. Its good. not that I will bother the form teacher but in case there are urgent matters, its faster rather then going through a whole "line" of office people.

Hmm…this new P must be not too bad. At least the direction that he gives to his teachers is to provide constant feedback and parents are able to get in touch with their kids form teachers easily.

After your feedback, I feel more reassured putting my boy there. The only thing I wish is the school function as a single session but its impossible as based on today’s standard its quite small.

Also can I check with you, parents who are picking up their kids, they will park at the nearby hdb carpark, is there a side gate? Will the kids be at the gate by about 6.45pm after flag lowering?

                      No problem.. 😄

Yes, I'm hoping for single session too, but it won't happen anytime soon for KCPPS. Like you mentioned, the school compound is very small, I don't see how it could achieve that with the current facilities and rooms they now have.

We were advised to park at the hdb carpark across the school. You may have noticed the sheltered waiting area just by the main gate. That's where most of us will pick up our kids. Yes, There is a side gate, just by the Eco garden, which has a covered walkway to the nearest flat (which is really near; from the gate to the bottom of flat is about 15m or so). By 6:45p.m. most of the kids should be by the gate already. Usually, when it rains, we are allowed to drive in and park at the school car park.

I guess it depends on where you stay. It'll be a good school to put your kids in, if you are staying not too far away 😄

Ultimately, it really depends on your school selection criteria as I believe you'll put a different weightage on each criterion.

All the best...I think you still have a few more years to decide, right?
