All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

Hi all, need some enlightenment here. If I'm a PV and unsucessful in Phase 2B and 2C, how does the school usually select if there are more than 10 on the waiting list who are all PVs and yet all stay within 1km? Will the school look at who is the nearest to the school among the 1km PVs??
how waiting list is managed is also at individual school's discretion. there is no standardised policy -
if all PVs stay <1km, the school look at the skill set of the parents - what they can possibly contribute to the school, that can help the school most.

How does PV work being allocated? Do u tell the school what you want to do or they will allocate?

Thank you jedamum for the info. I think my hubby belongs to the same category
1. can submit one application. include info about both parents and what both of you can offer. some school has their own pv forms to fill in.wishingstar0:
Hi, I am new here and this is my first post, hope it is not a repeat question somewhere in this forum though I have tried to read through most of the posts

I am planning to submit PV application this year, may I know if we are supposed to submit application for both parents or just one will do? During the screening exercise do they interview both parents? And can the volunteering work be shared by both parents i.e. either parent can clock the 40hrs?
Thx in advance for the advice
2. some schools interview both parents. but if your husband don't wanna pv (like mine  ), you also no choice right?
3. yes, volunteering work can be shared by both parents. but i think both parents particulars have to be submitted during the submission in this case.
For schools affiliated to SHHK, do you know whether the school will automatically disqualify you for PV if they know that either the mum or dad is a member? -

:please: hello KarenjjHi zoozoozoo
If you intent to do PV for SNGS, do follow up closely with the school on the PV application date. For your information, the PV application for child admission to P1 in 2013 started on 1 Sep 2010 and ended on 16 Sept 2010. The PV application was only \"open\" for 16 days. If you do not submit the PV form within this 16 days, you will not be considered. So please take note..
Good luck! :xedfingers:
really appreciate yr reply! My DD is now only 2 years old and I am really keen to do PV to increase my chance of getting her in. I have an elder one and we lost the ballot some years back. :gloomy: I remembered whenever I ran into some aunties/uncles ard my neighbourhood, they will ask me how come I don't let my elder daughter study at SNGS since we are just a minute walk from the school. Haiz...they think i don't want meh....i kana ballot out mah.Now my girl have to go to another all girls' school several kilometres away. Therefore, i hope to join PV for my younger one to increase my chance.Another princess in my stomach and so I really hope to secure a place for them... :grphug: -
SNGS is a good school. All the best to your PV application.

Dear Parents,
Do the schools have their own 'Quota" of Parent Volunteers(PV)? If the sch reach the no of PV required, will they stop accepting the PV application for a particular yr? It seem tedious & extra work for the school to accept lot of PV which they required. -

From my experience,I had submitted a PV application. In the form there was a entry for skill.I filled up my skills.
They have traffic duty, internal school activities such as racial harmony day during recess and sometimes after school and excursion trips.
I gave my flexible hours to incharge of PV.I chose the activities that in my flexible hours and my husband can do also. -

A responsible school should set a maximum number of PVs it can take.Dear Parents,

There is no sense taking in too many PVs when the school doesn't have enough places to go to that many PVs. That will only create more unhappiness and resentment when these PVs fail to get a place after spending hours serving the school.
That said, we are really not sure if all schools practice that. -

Dun worry.. you can try SNGS for DD2 again. You won't be able to avoid the balloting but with planning, you will be better prepared for it. Once DD2 gets in, you can try to transfer DD1 to the same school..
All the best!
