I believe building gd foundation in languages is essential for entering P1. For maths, if the kid is able 2 understand the logic of addition n subtraction, i believe this shld be sufficient. I think the most difficult subject is Chinese where it consists of accuracy writing (pi hua) n hypy.
      ok thanks for sharing.

If I can recall, they hv introduced basic counting for maths in beg of this yr. After being told by her teacher on their curriculum for this yr, I decided to enroll her for extra lesson in Mavis tutorial ctr where they prepared these kids for P1 next yr. They hv given spelling test (10 words) every week and also assessment for maths. The syllabus fr MFS is not comparable. I afraid tat by not providing her with add. Classes, she may lag behind others in P1 next yr.

I understand tat the teaching method fr MFS may not be the same as some ctr which they are adopting learning thru play in a relaxing environment for kids.

ok thanks. yes, i agree on that. it's not enough from what they learnt in MFS alone. tt's why enrichment classes can supplement on that. just that we need to know what to supplement.

If we want, each day give 1 word for our child, by the 5th day, total of 5 words. then do a spelling test with him on the next Monday. if can write already, then ask them write the 5 words. start slow. this will help in the spelling portion also.

maths wise, i thk better send them for classes as the foundation is important. at home, just ensure they know the numbers and simple addition

Hi...when would be an appropriate age to intro those extra classes?...my son is 3 years old now in playgroup...next yr will be nursery,,,i am at a loss as to wat enrichment class i shld send him for,,,,cos i am not sure wat will really be taught from nursery onwards....have not spoken to the principal on this yet....

                  Hi, all mummies

I am not sure whether u hv encountered the same concern as myself in MFS.

I realized tat during the absence of the teacher, there is no on-going lesson by other replacement teacher. There are few occasions my girl’s Chinese teacher was on either training or vacation for almost a wk, no lessons fr the replacement teacher. According 2 my girl, they will just either do art n craft or drawing or even playing toys in the ctr. This fact has improved fr previously where the replacement teacher juz surfing netbk and the whole class was sitting in a classroom doing nothing. Tat was after their tea break which they supposed 2 hv English lesson but teacher on mc. We hv feedback this incident 2 the ctr’s principal and was being told tat the replacement teacher is not meant 2 teach anything as they are not trained. To be frank, I am quite disappointed with the ctr’s policy but hv no choice to continue with ctr as there is only MFS around my placed provided full day Childcare service.

I hv started phonics class with Mavis tutorial when she was 4 yrs old (whole lesson took 8 mth). Chinese enrichment with Beijing language ctr when she was 4 yrs old. Abacus mental arithmetic with CMA at 5 yrs old. The most important is my girl enjoyed these classes.

                    Very kiasu, right.

Anyone has sent their kiddie to the one at Marine Terrace? The curriculum sounds impressive, but am doubtful if the young teachers there can discipline children. The kids were rather noisy when we visited. Am considering cos it’s super convenient for me but doubtful. Any comments?

I am still very concerned that they do not have spelling for English and Chinese. i understand this is a major part in many other pre-schools. I am thinking of writing to My First Skool headoffice. If more mummies write to them, i think they will do something about it.

                        What do you all think?
