      Hi

I need recommendations please as I am looking for Primary 3/4 (Lower Block) and Primary 5/6 (Upper Block) books for my children.

They are fine with UK National Curriculum science syllabus, which as not as challeging as what you do in P3 and upwards. They will enter selective school exams at age 10, and whilst science is not tested I would like them to read a science book just for fun, information, supplementary learning and exam questions (with solutions).

I hear Janet Sims (http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=19568&start=650) is well rated or Lognamn Essential Revison for science (http://www.popular.com.sg/images/product/book/91231.jpg).

I would like a workbook come revison book; any help appreciated.

PS, I have had to buy a metal storage cupboard to house past, present and future book collections.

      Regards
      O

        Hi optimistforum,
Just share what I am using for my P3 DD1.

        1) Ultimate Science Guide (Lower Block) By EPH
        http://www.eph.com.sg/bestsellers.php#
        http://i53.tinypic.com/oqb0ud.jpg\">
This serves like a \"bible\" for me to refer to especially for more detailed and in-depth explanation.

2)Science Partner by SAP Group Pte Ltdhttp://i53.tinypic.com/14wq6uc.jpg\">
        http://sapgrp.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=476_417_454_489&products_id=327
This is secondary to the 1st one on top and usually DD1 will use it for reference when she did her revision and other assessment books.

        3) Learning Science by SAP Group Pte Ltd http://i54.tinypic.com/1z6tiky.jpg\">
        main_page=product_info&cPath=476_417_454_455&products_id=324
This book consists of questions that is quite similar to exam format, i.e. MCQ and short-structured questions. I realised that my DD1's T random picked questions from this assessment book as worksheet for the class to practise so I will usually keep this book in my own cabinet and use it only when DD1 is doing the school worksheets

        4) Science Process Skills by SAP Group Pte Ltd http://i55.tinypic.com/1416vye.jpg\">
        http://sapgrp.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=476_417_454_455&products_id=330
Among All, I would rate this as the most \"difficult\" & challenging assessment book to work on. This book consists all short-structured questions; no MCQ. This book is also \"my own\" procession instead of DD1 as I read the questions and copied down the answers to the questions. I use it as a revision notes with DD1 especially nearing her exam periods.

5)My Weekly Companion Science by Longman http://i56.tinypic.com/358w09k.jpg\">
        https://www.popular.com.sg/jsp/product/product_detail.jsp?vca001=265&vpd001=95712#
OK - this is my DD1's \"favorite\" as the topic goes by weekly basis so she can do it at her own timing after her school teacher has finished that particularly chapter. Simple & straight-forward MCQ & short-structured questions πŸ˜‚

Sorry, I am a bit long-winded but hope that the above can help you in one way or another when making decisions in getting Science Assessment Books. I have others at home but not recommending to you as I find them unsuitable  .

            Hi,
My 'latest collection' of Science for reading is Janet Sim's Lower/Upper Block Science FAQ' (the one you posted)...peacock on cover for lower primary and grasshopper on cover for upper block.
The other must-have 'bible' is Ultimate Science. I would advise you to get the PSLE edition so that you don't have to get 2 books.

For workbook, I have several  but these 2 are helpful:
*Lower Block/Upper Block New Syllabus Science Book 1/2 by Helen Lee (EPH).
            *Primary 3/4 Conquer Science (SAP)
            http://i56.tinypic.com/349e7wy.jpg\"> http://i52.tinypic.com/2rptfmb.jpg\">

              Janet,
I am still hesitating; contemplating; in dilemma πŸ˜† to get the JAnet Sim Lower Block Science FAQ.... 🀷

Took out those assessment books; Re-arranging my cabinet this morning and am planning to do \"some serious revision\" with DD1

                Hi Champion,
I've finished copying out the answers and highlighting those in BOLD for son to read. The font used for answers in the box are TOO small...so my upper block FAQ book is colourful with pink, orange and green. Told hubby I won't be touching the chapters on \"Electrical Systems\" as I'm just not a 'Magnet-Electric circuit' person

Thank you Champion and Janet_lees88 for your great advise.

Champion, your response was not long-winded it was perfect and informative,

Janet_lees88, I get the impression that the "Conquer" series in Eng, Maths and Science would be stretching for my DS, so I will buy those.

                  Thanks guys.

                  O

This week DD is on the last revision topcis/paper and left about 8 lessons to go before the PSLE. They will be doing few prelim papers and PSLE revision papers.

                        Hi, Brenda,
Afternoon! :hi5: Yes, left 3 weeks for revision before CA2! πŸ˜“ Though it is only 10% but every mark counts and I just want to reinforce to DD1 that it is a \"middle-brake\" before her next final destination for this year, SA2! πŸ˜“ πŸ˜“

Will move on to do some notes extraction from assessment books for EL - can't rely on the STELLAR WORKSHEETS! :frustrated:
