That's music to my ears!
I never stressed my children much, neither have I felt stressed with the homework and enrichment.

I also adopt the same attitude as you. I will just guide them as we go along.
I'm more concerned with my kids getting an all rounded education and not just be academically driven.
Thanks again for your feedback. -

yes, an all-rounded education is the ultimate goal but sometimes you are always second-guessing yourself cos of the choices you make (my children dont go for swimming/ music etc etc etc but will be climbing tree and blowing bubbles at SBG ;)) And when you see other children scoring As and winning awards... self-doubt creeps in and you wonder if you are depriving your children :scratchhead:

We have spoken to one of the teachers there when thinking of whether to enrol our girl there and am happy to hear many good things about HPPS. Another ex student of HPPS, which happens to be a church friend, is also full of praises of the teachers there. So, I'm glad to hear consistent feedback about HPPS teachers.

And when we were successful in our ballot 6yos ago, couple of my frens cautioned me about teachers in such ‘premier’ school not teaching at all! ;o I am glad that my worries were unfounded. Yea, there are some chaff among the wheat, teacher absentism/ change is a common worry, but lessons and curriculum are well-planned and carried out well. My dd went thru frequent change of (form) teachers, for math and science in P5 but still learnt all that is necessary.
Of course we still have to play the supportive roles of cheerleaders and tutors sometime

sssdarlings,
I agree. Regardless of the school a child goes, parents need to play their role in coaching and instilling discipline as there's always a limit to how much a teacher can help. That said, an effective and encouraging teacher in school makes a great difference to the learning of a child and will help parents save time, effort and $$$ with lesser need for enrichment outside school

ITA! Need for enrichment is highly subjective as schools do not require such except for those which are active in talent-scouting.sssdarlings,

Some believe that teachers in neighbourhood schools tend to be more encouraging and 'hardworking' than from top schools (students so capable and attending so many external classes, teachers have less work
, so they say) I am glad that HPPS teachers do not fall into the latter category.

Any parents here in the HPPA?
Realised you need to pay to join… I thought only volunteer time only… -
Circle line will be ready by Oct 2011. so another option for travel by mrt. Anyway, I wonder if there’s any HPPS students going to P1 next year and also living in Bishan?
Maybe we can consider carpooling or sharing cabs? Do PM me if there’s any. Thanks!
