      UncleLim:
I continue to be amazed at the amount of money some of you are willing to spend on something that tells the time (and maybe look pretty on your wrist). Do we not have enough time telling devices on our phones, in our cars, on our computer screens ? Some say they are investments... anyone made a killing selling their watches?

      Please educate me.
You may not make a killing but it can be a decent investment.

20 years ago, my FIL inherited a Rolex watch from his father. The watch was at least 30 years old and had been well used. He managed to sell it for around $5k. I'm not sure about the original cost but it should be no more than $500. So you're looking at a 10 times return after 30 years, which is not bad at all, considering that you get to use it. But if the money had been used to buy a house, the return would have been around 50 times.

Upon reflection I realise I buy expensive (in my eyes lah) watches whenever I sell my house. And that’s only twice. And once upon a time I had many many swatches and pasar malam antic-looking pieces.

I am not really that much of a watch person and just uses them on the regular. I would say that I would be willing to spend a good 1500 on a watch if it has a good set of specifications. My last purchase was an Issey Miyake vue about 600 and it was worth it I guess.

Though I was lucky before to get some items from the Chronotech sale for just below 200. Those times would be a good chance to get a couple and just save them for later use.

I m also curious about the people who are fascinated about watches. I m not one of them. My dH is one such person. He likes to buy designer watches. Some brands I have never heard of like ICW or something like that???

Hmm…how does the woman being complicated relate to the watch hah?? I don’t quite get it. My friend always say I "man San pai"
