Raffles Girls' Primary

Moonee, i heard fr other parents who are concerned that DDs may be confused by the diff methods too. At lower primary levels, they learnt to solve Qs thro model methods but come higher levels, the Qs are more complex and the model drw'g will not be so straightfwd. Noticed that at P5 levels or even now, some teachers still use only the model method to solve the Qs.
DD does not like to use model method. I used to insist she drws models due to her carelessness but she is very adamant that drw'd model is tedious & time consuming & she cannot afford to spend precious time on drw'd models during exam. I hv given up since I can't help her with Math anyway but i hv also realised that what she said is true. eg that killer Q in 2009 PSLE math abt candies and chocolates - it is very tedious to drw models but if you knw other method, it can be very easy & fast.
However, some Qs can still be solved thro model methods easily. Unfortunately, DD is very headstrong in this. :stupid:
I find that learn'g the diff methods has helped DD as she realised that for certain types of Qs, one teacher's method is better but for some other types of Qs, other teachers' are better. She will adopt the method that she finds is the best for the diff types of Qs. At times, after learning the teacher's method, she wld come up with her own method whch accord'g to her is \"better\". :skeptical:
I don't check her hw but once in a while, I would ask her and see her stuff. -
Lately, I am a bit more conscientious in asking her after enrichment class what they covered that day !

Tks again honey 1999 for sharing yr views. Yr dd need little supervision when it comes to maths, she appear to be quite confident. Yes, sadly making careless mistake is something that the kids cant seem to see during test or exams, mine is best at that…tend to get nervous and make very simple calculation errors…
Ive also heard of parents discussing whether learning different methods would confuse the child but I agree that it all depends on the individual kid. My dd would use one method and try another to double check … ie if time permits.
Ive also started to be more attentive to what she has learnt during enrichment classes eversince she mention she has little time left for sch h/w. Unlike p4, the stress builds up in P5. This is not unexpected anyway. Youre lucky just 2 mths left, get it over and done with. -

Moonee- unfortunatelly, her over-confidence can be costly ! her short-cut in solving problems is also risky coz careless mistakes will result in zero or less marks. I prefer that she does it step by step even if it is longer.

phtthp - thank you for the update on the workshops !

does our school allow pupils to wear black canvas shoes, instead of confine to wearing white canvas shoes only ?
then no need to wash shoes every week.

I don't think so. If can, I also prefer black sneakers which look better !does our school allow pupils to wear black canvas shoes, instead of confine to wearing white canvas shoes only ?

Is it true that some girls were caught playing with fire in the toilet last week ?
