Stationery and School bags

My kids have used the Deuter and lego bags before. For Deuter, it only lasted a year as the seams near the zip worn off after a while.
My dd1 used lego when she was P1 and it was very very durable. But they prefer to change bag every year.
Currently as both of them are in P3 and P4, I changed them to samsonite. Light weight and ergonomic as well. It’s also durable.
For my P1 going next year, she choose a lego bag. As I happened to see them carrying it in Shanghai and it was going at a good price S$88, I got that for her. So the $46 discount does seem enticing. -
kiasu mummy:
Hi kiasu mummyHello maltbibi,
Any idea what's the range of prices for SPI? Any idea when offer (discount @ $46)ends?
Thanks!
$46 discount is for all the bags
Oops..so sorry miss out on the question on the range of prices. For Lego, its about $139 and above. For SPI, should be above $100. -
My #1 used SPI bag for more than 5 years. Her cheapo bag at P1 broke after a few months. The SPI bag lasted till P6. Still in good condition but kids don’t want to carry it when they enter Sec schs. Too childish for them.
#2 carries SPI bag since P1. Coming to 4 years already. Still good condition.
Will let #3 carry SPI bag also.
$46 discount sounds good. Better than trade in old SPI bag. But thought it a bit early to buy now cos only use next year. The bags average $100+ to $150.
Usually there will also be discount at the end of the year.
A word of advice: If your kid is not really small size, just buy the bigger bag. Else you’ll have to change bag again around P3 or P4 cos the bag too small for them by then.
Hmmmmm … should i buy now. put at home collect dust leh … -
i’m keen to get the spi backpack, thot the discount is good. but wondering if a similar discount will come back again? cos’ 6 more months, maybe better to guage a suitable backpack size at year end?
zeemimi, er… what is considered small size? i’m thinking of buying L size directly, my daughter is 114cm now, considered average?.. Should buy S or L size?
S size (active) is 35cm tall, L size is 40cm tall and deeper… Heard S size may give bigger folders dog-ears… -
Btw, I noticed that some SPI bags seem heavier. I’m keen in the SPI Active cos’ it seems lighter. Anyone can confirm? What are the lighter models? And anyone knows their weight?

Thanks for your adv on the discount thingy, KiasuNewbie and maltbibi.
Hi Yellowbelt,
you mention $46 is good and any idea what's the norm discount during the Dec school holidays?
Thanks!

The bags ranges from $129 to $159 before discount. So $46 is a good discount. But it means buying early and having the bag collect dust at home.
They ususally have another round of discount end of the year, but maybe 15% to 25%. Even trade in of old bag is 25% discount.
Erm, i’m not sure how to define big size or small size. Best is bring your kid down to try. Let him carry the bag and gauge the size. If possible, at least go for the M size to last all 6 years. S size is too small. At most last 2 years only. -
I went to kinderfun to buy the SPI active. It is by far the lightest compared to other SPI range and deuter and impact. I went to og to compare the bags. Ended i went to SPI active just over the weekend as they have $46 discount. i bought the SPI active S size cos M size is too big and S size also quite for my girl cos she is quite thin. Almost cannot see her backview when she carries the S Size. After $46 discount, i pay $83 for the bag and they left with pink only. They told me once the bags all sold out, warehouse no more and they have new stock but will not have dicount or the discount very little , as little as 5% only year end. i think now the best time to buy cos the cheapest is $129 and imagine 25%, you need to pay about $96 for the bag. the $46 discount equivalent to about 35% discount
