All mummies who failed in getting your child into the school of your choice, no worries. Let your child goes thru the first year with flying colour in other school and transfer to your choice school in P2 or P3. The principal of the school cannot get the best student now based on the current system, but he/she can decide which bright child to take in after P1. :rahrah:

Hey favianboy (Co-incidentally my son’s name is Fabian !)
I understand there is no more assessment and grading for P1 and P2 students…so, I am not sure how the schools determine if the student is bright or not? No more positioning as well…
So, we may not know if this method works!

Not really, imho, as they only assess based on number of awards and pupils with 275 and above.
Since all the available schs are out of 2km, you will have to find schools with bigger vacancies since you may be subjected to balloting again if there is a higher number of 1km and 1-2km applicants.
Generally, schs in AMK have more vacancies. Bishan, thereis only GYPS. Toa Payoh, First TPY Pri. Everywhere would be inconvenient, so I would suggest that you go to the sch to see if you like the environment, instead of worrying about the distance.
Heard that AMK Pri not bad, discipline quite good. True or not, I don't know but you may want to just look see look see. Townsville and Jing Shan, I think the academic is improving. The others, I have no idea at all. GYPS should be ok too. If you like boys' sch, the only that is left I think is Monfort but that's even further.
You may also want to identify more than 1 sch to register because now you have to play safe. -

I think all based on historical data, and each batch of students are different. I believe all of us parents believe in our children, so these tier thingys should not be a yardstick for our children and what they would achieve in future, ya?
KCCPS is tier 2 and MCS is tier 3 .. did i make the wrong choice? I have the chance to go to KCCPS at phase 2B but chosen to take my chance at Pei Chun. Knowing my odds are low at phase 2C for Pei Chun and KCCPS, i chosen MCS. KCCPS did not publish their results at website so hard to judge how their students perform in PSLE. Based on that, KCPPS has received BPA & SDA. Her website also has SAA.
MCS has SAA (Sports)
Each sch has her own strengths. PSLE aggregate alone is not the only tool of assessment.
To all parents in P2CS, check out the schools to get a feel of culture, etc. You'll have to feel good about the school before putting your child in it. Kids can sometimes sense parents' feelings. If we feel so negative, it won't help them cos they will go to that sch feeling negative.
At this stage, the kid doesn't really know about the popularity of pri schs. Help them to enter the pri sch (whichever it is) with a positive and expectant spirit. Then the kid can benefit and excel. -

Jnemummy, my girl is also going to MCS next year. I also have the same concerns as you about MCS' academics, wondering if its strong or not. One of the MCS mummies shared on the MCS thread that last year 10 girls from MCS made it to RGS, so I think their academics must be still not bad! I felt consoled hearing that. At the end of the day, it's up to use to motivate our kids no matter which school they are in

Frankly, Gy pupils better behaved than AMK. I can see cos they are next to each other now. Gy discipline also quite good, strict with behaviour. Teachers quite proactive and my son adores his teachers, esp his Chinese teacher. Has a lot of energy for the kids. I heard from my friends that the results improved by a lot last year, all above national average and the school focuses on the academics too. I think my son enjoys the school but I must say that the family plays an important role too. The P believes in working with the parents and she is quite on. -

Honestly, i think the tier thingy is iffy. For schools around me, I always thot Nan Hua is better than Henry Park but Henry Park is Tier 1 and Nan Hua only Tier 2. :siao: :scratchhead:
I think many parents based TOO MUCH emphasis on these \"TOP\" schools or not. I've to be honest with you. After I got into Henry Park, I started worrying if my DS will be too pressured. Cos I think my son is the kind who'd rather be #1 in a so-so school than average in a TOP school.
I'm still active in this thread cos I was old-girl at ATS and gave up my 2A spot cos it's simply too far. Anyway, my sister who is a teacher told me that the standard of ATS has dropped since our time but I really dunno how true this is as it is still Tier 1.
I would advise you to look at your child and see what he excels in? Some kids work better with competition and some just shut down when he thinks he's not as good as his peers. My son is more the latter.
So I'll advise you to go to each of the schools website and find out more about their culture or CCAs offered and I also go to the Schools Parents Networking threads on KSP to ask questions. Are there certain sports he likes cos not all schools offer the same sports
For me, I will still be monitoring how my DS take to the school and will transfer him out once I see him not thriving in the environment. :siam:
