Personally, I felt the main contributing factors are

        - more & more people are becoming aware & informed of which schools are more popular and need of priority registration to enhance chance

        - property boom, more higher density residential within 1km of popular schools

MOE's planning & forecasting of demand may be another contributing factor. Then again this is no easy task

also the reduction in cohort size due to deadline to implement single session by 2016....so, many schools got no choice but to reduce by 30 or 60 places, especially those in heartland high density areas......not enough new schools couple with reduced intake for existing schools -- it made a bad situation worse. Definitely MOE and HDB need to talk

for popular schools, there need to ballot since long time ago ...... nothing new actually

Does MOE review the Pri 1 Registration Phases regularly/periodically so as to improve the whole system?

this one only the Minister can answer - more on the allocation of places, even tough every year the number of vacancies exceed the total demand

but if you're careless, lose your child's report card over the years in the midst of shifting house, then sorry lah. Then, you lose the precious evidence that your kid had ever studied in that school before.

😂 I think 30 yrs later there should still be computerized records lah, cannot be still relying on hardcopies...

I do seriously think it is the reduction in class sizes. People want smaller class sizes and single session. At the same time, it means the school will be able to accept significantly fewer students.

Imagine, during my dd1's time, school had vacancy for 40X6classes(240 students). 5 or 6 years later, school could only accept 30X6classes(180 students). Despite it being a popular top school in the HDB heartlands, during that time, we didn't have to ballot for dd1's application in Phase 2B for church members. Now, balloting is likely within 1-2km, or even possibly within 1km in some years bc of the much smaller vacancies. For our ds1, again a popular school in HDB neighbourhood, we balloted outside 2km in phase 2B. Now, balloting within 1km in phase 2B is the norm.

The numbers registering under Phase 1 & Phase 2A1/2A2 probably have not deferred significantly from those years, but Phase 2B onwards will see a drastic reduction in vacancy numbers, obviously.

Why Singaporean kids need to \"fight\" to get into places with PRs in Phrase 3? Think should give priority to Singaporean kids. :faint: Why would parents pay school fees to get into schools not their choice for P1? Maybe should sponsor if cannot get into school of their choice :? :stompfeet:
