      kvk:
Any send his/her DS or DD for chinese enrichment class?

      kvk:
      LOLMum:

      about $45 per hr

Oh i see.... i just register my DD at Jiang Education Centre at Fu Lu Shou.
Don't know if its going to help her much anot.

Sent dd2 to nearby RC last year when she was in k2. She joined 3 other p1 kids. I withdrawn her after they completed hanyu pinyin since my intention was to prep her for hanyu pinyin only. Fees around $60/mth.

She's p1 this year. Started her on creative writing last month at nearby CC. CC goes by block of 8 lessons, fees around $100 but class size is much much bigger than RC's.

I like RC & CC's flexibility. No registration fee. No deposit. No need to give advance notice for withdrawal. Can skip level.

        Hi Mummies,

I realized the Chinese assessment books which I bought for my P1 gal is not of much help...don't know if it is the syllabus in her school which doesn't quite follow or vice versa. Really frustrating.
Other than the 习字本 which I use to coach her for ting xie, the others are not of much help at all. Will need to check with her teacher regarding this...for her P2 CL assessment, I will definitely be spending more time standing at Popular to comb through the sections inside.
I tried to find those assessment books with format similar to school's. May not be able to get every section from a single book. P1 P2 still alright, I only bought one book. From P3, need to buy two books & pick the relevant sections from each book for my dd to do.

        janet_lee88:
Allow me to explain how school gives ting xie.
*Must learn to write 8-10 Chinese characters
        *3 hanyu pinyin to learn
*10 ci yu to explain how to fill in the blanks.

I split the 'must learn to write' characters to 2 days...as for the 10 ci yu, I just explain the meanings on Tue night. As for spelling, I also split into 2 days because there are certain words in the sentences she doesn't know.
My dd usually spend 10 minutes to learn tingxie. Each tingxie has 10 items. 2 long sentences and the other 8 comprise 2 to 3 characters each

For those unfamilar words, she will practise writing the strokes in the air. When she's ready, I will test her. Usually acceptable except for those words with ugly handwriting, then I will ask her to re-write.

For ci yu, I don't teach her specifically. When she's doing assessment book, typically would have ci yu in questions. If got it right then no need to teach. Wrong answer then I will explain. Sufficient practice I think.

          Hi Sleepy,

For P1, there is not much urgency yet...although there are summative assessments every now and then. BTW, if the P1s enbloc to P2, what is this thing about total marks at the end of the year for ? They will still be in the same class at P2.

I can't cram all the ting xie to be learnt the day before or else there will be a free day to do something else.

As for CL assessment books, I will be more picky when buying end of this year. There is this title I get every year by Victoria Publications. http://i53.tinypic.com/iempmg.jpg\">

              Hi all,

My DD is going to P1 next year, wonder what are the \"necessary\" enrichment classes that we should send? On hand, my DD is attending quite a no. of classes, was thinking to cut down some as I think she might not have time.. But I don't know which one to cut down

              Anyone can advise?

                Hi sleepy,

I checked with my CL tutor regarding P1…she told me that bcos P1-2 do not have SA, the school doesn’t have any format to follow for eg 辨字测验,完成句子 etc which can be found in any other level of assessment books. As such, it explains why I cannot find any suitable assessment book to revise with her.

These few days, I’ve been revising comprehension MCQ/OE with her as there will be a test this coming Friday on this.

                  Hi i3mum,
My daughter used to attend RC class for P1...stopped it since Term 2 as I find the teacher going too fast. Although $60 is not a lot per month, I feel I can still coach her myself. Quite 可怜 when teacher goes so fast and she is struggling. Impt thing is to revise what has been taught in school.

                      Hi,
My daughter attended Toh Yi RC...teacher is Mdm Rahayu. She is the principal of the Little Wings at nearby PCF.
She is rather understanding...after attending her class, my daughter got the hang of spelling. Her teaching is not bad...Her mobile no is 97479223 (from note taken off notice board in the lift lobby).

Yes, the 习字本 that we talked about in the other thread is one of the "must-have" in their home!

May I know which 习字本 is it? Which publisher? Where can buy?
