My DD is on the WL at NUSH. We would like to know how big is the WL at NUSH and do all those on the WL get CO eventually?

WL is as good as CO if your DD put NUSH as 1st choice in the Option preference even if she has another CO (if she die die also must go to NUSH).
Remember It must be 1st Choice. If put the CO as 1st choice, your DD will go to the CO school. Last year NUSH Cohort 30 CO not taken up assuming after including the 10% intake (17 placings are reserved for PSLE postings).

I know that after the tea reception some replies will come from those multiple COs holder of RI, RGS, HCI. Some of them will indicate that they are likely skip NUSH. This is where some very good rejecteds will be upgraded to WLs. So there is still some hopes for those reject. But NUSH are very strict about the candidates. I believe they don't 'top up\" the no of placings even after CO are declined. They only take in potential students that met their criteria. I knew this after one of my DD class mates was called up in Sept and \"promoted\" to WL after receiving the initial rejection letter.

Thank you all for your helpful replies. DD is very keen, and it’s the first time she’s so motivated to achieve something (get into NUSH), rare for a really ‘chill’ kind of kid!

I hope more girls can get into NUSH to balance up the gender ratio ! Now it is too skewed to the boys.Llast year cohort (incl PSLE ) is only 140 out of potential intake of 170 - Only 29 miserable girls in year 1 cohort. It is not that girls are worse off than boys in Maths /Science. It just that many (esp those in GEP) chose their traditional favourite. In fact most NUSH girls would do well in Maths /Science on top of their usual languages and humanities strength. NUSH girls may be minority but they are usually the cream (top) of the GPA high scorers.

For those get into IP sch other than NUSH then hv to worry what if they fail or not do well in their A level exam after 6 yrs. For NUSH, the marks fr Y3 to Y6 contribute to the total score in the NUSH diploma, not only the final exam in Y6. Hence,students are less stressful in Y6 compared to other IP schools' students. That why I prefer mine to get into NUSH as the sys ensures they work consistently thr'out 6 yrs & prevent 'last-min studying'.

For those joining in y1, percentage contributing to GPA of 5 are y1 (10%) Y2 (10%) y3 (20%) y4 (20%) y5 (20%) y6 (20%).

For those joining y3, it is y3 (25%) y4 (25%) y5 (25%) y6 (25%)

Hence NUSH emphasise consistent performance throughout the 6 years and not a single exam situation like \"A\" level.

Hi,
Since 2009, only Y3 to Y6 cap will be counted towards the graduation cap but Y1 & Y2 cap will still be shown in grad transcript.

That's the spirit. Will you guys consider applying for NUSH again with the PSLE results since they encourage us strongly to do so in the rejection letter ?

both are Secondary schools that focus on Maths and Engineering subjects, right ?

NUSH is an IP school with their own diploma.
SST is O level route emphasizing on applications, more on the poly route.

The chances of getting in on a WL are very good, as some students are given multiple offers from other schools and choose to go elsewhere. Good luck!

I sure hope so. DD says at the selection camp this year, she didn't see that many kids from GE school, and it was a wide mix of kids from 'all over the place'. Since kids with multiple CO offers tend to come from GEP, was wondering what are the implications. but thanks for the well wishes

Did your DD have problems adapting to the co-ed environment in NUSH, or feel 'restricted' in any way? My girl is currently in an all-girls school, which tends not to emphasize on gender-stereotype behaviour, so she had developed quite a 'free spirit' with a gung-ho attitude. As a parent, i would really like to preserve that. From what we observed of girls in co-ed school, they tend to be more subdued and meek. (maybe some stereo-typing on my side)

Also, is there friendly competition between school mates in NUSH? I am hesitant about putting her in another top IP school, as I heard the competition can get pretty ugly. Her current classmates cheer each other on in academic achievements and I would prefer her to grow up in a similar environment.
