Primary One School Orientation
-
before P1 orientation, the school admin would have already done all necessary paper work. They had already sorted out the classes. Kids already been assigned to different classes. Each class under different form teachers (FT). But based on what criteria, not sure ... different school differs.
on actual orientation day, parents will be entertained inside the school hall by the P giving speech, about the school environment & culture, what to expect for P1, whether got any buddy system help their small ones buy food in the tuck shop / canteen, etc.
normally bookshops are open. Those who want to buy books, stationery can do so. If not, buy another day where is not so crowded, or can also order P1 set of books - online. The vendor then deliver the books to your house, right to your door step.
the pupils line up in two(s), enter their designated classroom(s), get to know their form teachers, as well as let FT get to know them. -

true enough, but not for Frontier... brand-new school...why not check with parents of existing students of your child's school through the respective schools' parents' networking thread?
Each school plans its own orientation programme
we will share with future batches... hee

Ngee Ann Pri is on 30 Dec 8.30am. isnt that a bit too late, am afraid will not have enough time to get the necessary stuff
Oh, I thought so Frontier Primary School Orientation will be rather late on 17th December 2011....
maybe because school still under construction... coz I saw most other schools' orientation in November... seems like we still have 2 weeks' time to get ready after orientation... unlike Ngee Ann... you sure it's so late?? :scratchhead:

I thought it will be chaotic during P1 orientation...however it wasn't at all !!! On the day of orientation last year, there wasn't any vendor selling uniforms/books.
Parents attended the briefing/introduction by principal/HODs while daughter was in class with her form teacher and classmates. Hubby signed forms for GIRO school/misc fees, option to take school transport etc etc. Booklist was given but there were dates to buy the books/uniforms. Parents just had to go online, make payment and then pick up the books on certain dates.
I brought daughter to buy her uniforms and collect her books. Books packed nicely in box. Very organized :salute:
Which School was that? NYPS? I heard from a friend they order online and also offer delivery. I thought that was really cool. -
quite a number of schools can order online, esp. those where the vendor is Pacific bookstore. They deliver right to your door step if you choose to order online, give you some promotion free gift(s) as well. Because during this period is already Nov /December period, season of goodwill.
eg: ACS, Ngee Ann primary, etc. -
hi LeeTaiTai,
for RGPS, just called up admin. Kids no need to take any test on coming orientation day, 19 Nov (Sat).
i asked - so, how are the girls grouped & distributed into different class ?
she replied - first sort the girls’ names in alphabetical order, next then group the girls into 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. Total 9 classes. Each class 30 girls.
So, all the ‘1’ go into class 1, the ‘2’ enter class 2, the ‘3’ enter class 3, etc.
for phonics, all kids would have learnt their phonics well in kindergarten. So the school won’t teach phonics in great detail. Parents are advised to ensure their daughter can read well, including reading very basic, simple instructions, can write their own name. -
for MGS P1 orientation also on 19 Nov (Sat), can read more here:-

CHIJ Toa Payoh. I left the school carrying a nice box with all her books and uniforms...super cool. The vendor is Pacific. Tick the books you want, pay online and print out receipt. Then move to the other section of the canteen to buy her pinafore/blouse and another vendor selling her PE tops/shorts/socks.
