Just remember story about a maid whose first employer brought her for facials. When she changed employer, the maid 'hiam' that the new one never bring her.

Then again, after spending time with them, and if they are nice/good, this kind of thing don't 计较. happy working relationship is best.

      Hi hquek,
Yes, when it comes to food, chin-chye lah!

Wah, that employer spoil the market leh...go facial! :scared: Hope I won't encounter such maids. If she \"hiam\", the more I won't give in to her and let her have anything. It is a privilege not a right!

Wah like that next time before employing a maid must ask her how well her last employer treated her otherwise we can't meet their standards.

Hi all esp for those who left the kid alone with maid, no supervision from mother/father/in-laws,

i'm quite new to have a maid, need some advice here.
do you give your maid house keys?
do you let your maid go out the house for a walk?
do you let your maid bring their friends into the house?
        thx.
Yes, she has the house keys. ed. Definitely no friends allowed inside my house.

What should i do to my maid ar, she just brought her friend inside my house when we were not ard, good thing i caught that in the cam we installed. I'm so pissed off with her, i hav oredi told her since the beginning that she's not allowed to let anyone enter the house. This is v v bad and im so disappointed with her, smemore her friend brought the kid and played ard in my baby's bed!! What do u think i shud do? Any advice? Thx

You've got to be very strict with her and tell her in no uncertain terms that that's not allowed. It's very bold of her and her friend. Issue her a stern warning and be prepared to send her home if she repeats it. It could be a baby in your baby's bed today, and a strange man in your bed tomorrow.

Hi, anyone here hire maid to take care elderly, can ur maid manage? If the maid totally got no experience in handling elderly, how??? Recently my sil hire a Myanmar maid to take care my mil but everything also don't know....headache

            Hi pokemon97,
            Yes, me!
You can read my post on page 604 regarding my maid hired to take care of my father. Mine is a young Indonesian maid, no experience previously. But in order to be able to take care especially if got medical problems and need to go in and out of hospital, you need an INTELLIGENT maid. If she is intelligent and willing to learn, she can pick up! Can send her for training at the maid agency or even the hospital Care-givers' course. But hope your Myanmar maid's English is good and trainable. My maid told me most of the maids at the Care-givers' course were Philippinos. It seems most people will hire Philippinos to look after the elderly and quite a number of Philippinos work as nurses in the hospital.
            All the best!

Thanks for replying. This is the first time my sil try Myamar maid, her previous one is indo but going back married after working 8 yrs. Can advise which hospital care-givers' course u send your maid to? Actually now is our indo maid train the new maid but she is going back next week. Think we will have to change another one and send her to the course cos this one keep saying difficult and can't communicate with us and do whatever she want.

Regarding letting maid eat what we eat and maid eating what we do not want them to eat - i think we as employers have to learn through our mistakes. Also, different maids are different.

Some of my maids, you ask them to eat - they dont even want to touch as they are afraid of putting on weight. Some so yiao kuei.

For me, i usually let them eat what we eat (minus birds nest). What we eat for bf, lunch & dinner. This current one, when she first come, she drank 3 bottles of coke in 2 days cos she said i told her she can eat anything. Then i realised my mistake. Not that i dont allow her to drink but some people do not know how to be considerate. Or rather different standards of "considerate".

I told her she can eat dinner before us especially if we come back late. She ate before my kids ate their dinner and forgot all about them. When i came home at 8pm, none of my kids has eaten. She is the only one has eaten dinner!!! These things have never happened with my previous maids with the same instruction. Therefore, i change my rules - the kids have to eat first before she can eat.

For food, every time i bought something, i will tell her for example "keep this in fridge, they are for the children’s breakfast". Or "these are for my guests tonight"

She is now super!! Very good. She completed her first contract and now on her 2nd. A great cook with initiatives. Now she knows what she can and what she cant. Before signing her new contract, i ask her if she is expecting a certain pay. She told me. "Ma’am, it doesnt matter how much you are going to increase, i will work for you".

All said, i mean, we learn along the way to give instructions. She is not perfect but now and then i will "remind" her of the dos and donts and what i dont like. Yah… like old woman - keep repeating stuff

                Hi pokemon97,
My father was hospitalized at SGH so the nurses arranged for my maid to be trained at SGH. Apparently they have 2 such training each week, either on Thursday or Saturday for 3 hours. Will train them to clean the elderly/patient, tube feeding, measure blood sugar etc... Perhaps you can call and ask because I am not sure if it is just something for in-patient or care-giver interested can just attend.

I am going to renew my maid contract soon, think I will also ask her if she is expecting a certain pay. Just renewed her passport and the Embassy contract stapulate USD$400 plus off days, if I need to pay that amount, I think I reconsider about renewing her contract and look for other options.

She knows the Embassy contract is formality only. During the past 2 years working for me, i've been brain washing her with stories. These are true stories about employer ill treating their maids lah - not lying. But i re-iterate!!

Eg. Tell her about my previous maid bad experience with her prev employer - can only eat the cheapest veg/food and that her food was put together with the dog's food fridge. At our place she eats what we eat - waygu beef steak, cod, salmon (no bird's nest)
Another one. \"This maid can have 3 meals but all maggi mee. Can eat only when she completes her tasks. Maid eats till all her hair drop\".
\"Not all maid get all Sundays off\"
\"Not all maids get to rest at 8pm. Dont believe, check with your friends.\"
                    Blah blah blah. Hahahaha

I think also luck lah. Before her, i had 8 maids in 2 yrs

May I know how much you are paying her after the contract renewal?

My maid has a cousin who just come to work in Sin. I asked her if she knows how much her cousin is being paid, she said $520 as the cousin's employer followed the contract. Then she quickly said she is not complaining as she is happy working. I am still uneasy ...

$520 is a lot. How long has your maid been working for you?
