The HCL bonus points can only be used if you apply for admission to a SAP school. It cannot be counted for any other schools. So for eg if a student scores 260 at PSLE and has a distinction at HCL, his PSLE score is 260 for application to all schools in Singapore except SAP schools. If he applies for a SAP school, his score will be taken as 260+3=263.

In short, HCL bonus points are only useful if you are applying to SAP schools.

Note you do not need to have taken HCL in primary school to study in an SAP secondary school.

            Thanks, jatoh, for the replies

to add on, can also take HCL in sec school even though did not take HCL in PSLE, (jtoh, can tell us the criteria please) and non-SAP sec school also offers HCL. If pass HCL at O Level, then no need to do CL at JC1/2

the PSLE result slip will state whether eligible to do HCL in sec school or not

Criteria for taking HCL in secondary school:

Pupils who offer Mother Tongue Language (MTL)(i.e. Chinese/ Malay/ Tamil) or HMTL (i.e. Higher Chinese/ Higher Malay/ Higher Tamil) at the PSLE and

                  * are ranked among the top 10% of the PSLE; or
                  * are in the top 11% - 30% band who meet the language criteria (i.e. an A* grade in the MTL or at least a Merit in the HMTL)

may opt to study HMTL at secondary schools.

If you pass HCL at O levels, you are excused from taking CL in JC.

Definitely useful at secondary school. Just need to pass HCL and can drop the subject at JC level. :imcool:

Oic, can skip HCL in primary and only do HCL during secondary so to Siam CL in JC? But if didn't do HCL during primary, isn't it hard to cope HCL in secondary? šŸ˜„
