        hi LeeTaiTai,

for RGPS, just called up admin. Kids no need to take any test on coming orientation day, 19 Nov (Sat).

i asked - so, how are the girls grouped & distributed into different class ?
she replied - first sort the girls' names in alphabetical order, next then group the girls into 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. Total 9 classes. Each class 30 girls.

So, all the '1' go into class 1, the '2' enter class 2, the '3' enter class 3, etc.

for phonics, all kids would have learnt their phonics well in kindergarten. So the school won't teach phonics in great detail. Parents are advised to ensure their daughter can read well, including reading very basic, simple instructions, can write their own name.

Tx Mdm ! πŸ’‹ You know my mum told me long ago school give priority to kids whose parents are of higher income eg,lawyer , doctors etc whatever vacancy left will be given to the public and that's how they group students. I wonder how true is that before they come up with current system.

mil told me something like that. said there was a period when educated moms get priority before moms who had lower education levels.

i think the current system is much better in this sense!

Can’t agree more , the system should consistently improve and we parents should keep ourselves abreast of changes too .

Thanks Kabalevsky, I suppose it's once a week. I am thinking if I should stop my DD's art class once she start P1 as she has other classes to attend.

can i know when it comes to buying sch books, uniforms, PE short/shirts, socks, shoes, etc....

hw much will one hv to prepare...?
Bring CASH. Abt $200 max. If you do not require some of the \"frills\" - eg. socks, sch shoes, some stationaries like crayons etc. from bookshops, may be able to settle within $150.

On day itself, better for both parents to be there. Can split up one to buy books and one to buy uniforms for kid. Q can be super long if collect on-the-spot for some schools. The impt thing is to be fast and get in the front of Q. Be prepared for all the documents required including bank ac # for giro for sch fee. Some items can be bought outside.

                    Hi Mummy Pen88n,
Glad to see you online :snuggles: :hugs:

Thank you once again for your valuable advice and remind me to bring cash on the orientation day (memory failing as 1st orientation was 3 years ago with DD1 πŸ˜‰ ).

yes, good tip! dh and I queued separately too.

if your child is not with you when you are buying uniforms, can bring your child's clothes to use as sizing reference. cos the uniform size no. is not universal or standard.

i brought my ds1's tee and shorts from home (a size that is slightly larger to be comfortable with room for growth in the year) and followed that size to buy his uniforms.

it depends. the school's art curriculum is quite general. if your dd's art class is like NAFA kind or some specific kind like chinese brush painting, then it won't overlap.

however, my ds1's school has extra art classes under the PAL programme where the LPN Art school came in to teach the entire P1 cohort for 1 term or was it 1 semester... They dabbled in many different media and tried different techniques and made many things. Mosaic whatnots and dunno what. A lot of stuff was done as a group so ds1 did not bring them back. But kids have to bring old clothes and newspapers cos they are allowed to create a big mess. My ds1 loved these lessons so much! They got a cert after the course, which is how I know that it is this art school that did the course.

you can find out from your school, if overlap, then can cancel the personal enrichment, i guess. πŸ™‚
